Yellows Yellows everywhere, but none to bite
Today I saw the most YT's i've seen since i've been fishing LaJolla.
Boilers and Puddlers all over the place but none would bite.
Paddled over to the GPS #'s for the NW corner.
(N 32.51.220 x W117.17.620 )
Kept working that area from 5:30ish on. Saw a very large school of YT's crusing with fins out of the water. Threw a Salas 7x, blue and white, and got one to follow it to the boat, but he/she turned when it saw the Kayak.
I continued to run across smaller groups of Tails and several ones and twos doing the same thing,, just swimming right beneath the surface, with fins and tails sticking out,, but no biters.
Not sure what's worse, not seeing and not catching or seeing tons and not catching,,,

Beautiful day on the water for me anyway

Thanks for the detailed report!
Sorry you couldn't get em to go. Frustrating when they do that.

Yo noobie, try puttin the date in the title
I launched 5:30 AM, went north looking for halibut and while I was making bait in front of the pier saw a spot of puddlers as close as I have seen to the pier in 30 feet of water. I had a mac to throw at em and was about 25 feet away, but wanted to get one on the iron. Threw it way past em and as it came through there were some nice big Vs as they followed and nothing more.......gone. Tons of sardines just north of the pier and I loaded up. Lost one small halibut at color that was probably not quite legal any way. Had one mystery fish pull me out to sea for 20 minutes. Every time I'd start to look over the edge for color it would take all the line right back. BSB? Just wanted a peek....finally broke at the knot.

I think it was Arne that got that pier YT thing started after hearing about Jim S and I seeing them. He landed a few (Arne), I never did. I thought it was starting a few weeks ago, had that greasy glassy feel in the morning and the sardines started to pop right at gray. That was cool, but frustrating, fishing.

I think there were some yt right off the pier again this morning. Lots of bait popping with some big splashes right the very first hint of gray light.

I remember that day well, pulling on a big yellow only to have the hooks straighten out on my Mega Bait. :(

hooks straighten out on my Mega Bait. :(
I've found that changing out my stock mega bait hooks and split rings with Owner Stingers is a safer bet for the bigger units.
