Thats a good idea for large swimbaits or slugs.

Thanks for the tip. What knot do you use for tying the loop in the braid?

A surgeons loop will work well and will not slip in the spectra.

How much, if at all, does this affect the action of the bait?

It doesn't affect the action at all. Use thin wire hooks like Owner Flyliner's.

I used to use this rig a lot for short biting halibut. I was always afraid of gut hooking a bass but it never happened. Now I just use them in freshwater for trout and have caught bass and crappie on 'em too.

I tie mine like this....

What you need:

3" swimbait

10" of 8 lb Power Pro

2" sewing needle

Size 6 Owner Mosquito hook

3/16 Owner Darter head

Thread the bait on the lead head

Tie a Palomar knot to the trap hook and a double over hand knot to the needle

Thread the needle through the top center tail of the swimbait.

Push straight through to the hole where the hook of the lead head exits the swimbait

Pull the needle out with pliers until the eye of the hook hits the tail then push the hook into place with your fingers.

Cut line from needle, loop the line twice through the eye of the leadhead, then tie a 4 turn San Diego knot.

Grab the trap hook with pliers and the tag end with your other hand and pull snug.

Guys, I've made trap hooks exactly like on the pictures.
One problem: While I am casting, the trap hook catching line at the flying.
It is happens in 80% of casting. I've tried to change stile of casting like side cast, overhead cast etc. Result the same. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Does the line to the trap hook tear out thru the side of the bait?

Does the line to the trap hook tear out thru the side of the bait?

Thank you for response!
Nop. It exactly like on the final picture. Only one difference: the line to the trap is ending by loop that is grasping the main hook.
I pulling the braided line by loop through tail and let it out through the same hole where jighead hook tearing out. After that I pull jighead little back.
The end of main hook almost hiding in the body. Then I pushing it forward the way it piercing the end loop. So whole trap hook line is inside of body. Trap hook in the same position like on the last picture.
