It's wide-open...just about every day here. I guess that's one of many reasons why I haven't fished the Bay in years.

Like some of you, I'd rather get skunked for days on end than the alternative: getting tapped constantly by fish the size of what I typically consider bait. Well, the bait sized fish were practically jumping into the boat this afternoon.

Don't tell anyone I gave you the call, but they were damn near full-speed. Wide open! :)

Model after model lined up to have their picture taken.

It was like a wide-open Tuna bite complete with foaming Cows erupting on the surface; only a whole hell of a lot smaller! To each their own, I guess. :D

I will say that pound for pound these fish are scrappy. They're beautiful and aggressive. Which kind of reminded me of the women from Brazil in some ways, but these fish weren't nearly as...what's the word, voluptuous?

After wiping a wheel barrel full of dust off my over-priced Bass reel I headed out last second. I could get a new jig-stick with a Newell from Fishaholic for the price of this thing! It's for catching one pound fish for Pete's sake!

I launched in a barely Sea worthy craft in an effort to, well, for one: have fun pulling on some little fish. Which I did. Contrary to the sarcasm engraved throughout my writing, in regards to Spotted Bay Bass and the like---it was a blast! Loads of fun and laughter was common during my brief stay. The second reason: to scout out an area for next months WCW submissions. What if my giant Halibut spot dries up? What on earth would I do then?

The trip was a success on all counts. If I had one day left to catch a measly ten pound Halibut to complete my slam for the month. I know where I would go. San Diego Bay is holding, boys. Go get 'em!

Very nice...

Thanks, BIG D!

No teaser, Steve. Just a fun afternoon in the San Diego Bay. My monster Halibut upgrade was added, though, in my "Welcome" post. It was also added to my April subs as well. Not exactly a monster either; just a little 'ol twenty-eight pounder! My spots are still holding the barn doors, but if it dries up I'll just find another one. The ocean is loaded with treasure, but the map is often hard to read. :)

No baits in the photos ......com on! :D

What were you in disguise in the Cobra Kayak?

The Cobra kayak was a blast! The kayak met the minimum requirements of a fishing kayak for me: the ability to float! Getting back to the simplest form of kayak fishing was kind of nice. I'm not knocking the guys who choose to do this all the time, but it's a big difference from what I do everyday. For lack of a better word, simple.

No need to cover twenty miles in a day scanning the ocean for trophy fish. No need for a $1,000 High definition sonar, g.p.s., radio or $2,000 worth of fishing gear along for the ride. Your talking about paddling for a minute, making a cast and catching fish. I brought one rod with 8 lb mono. I used the same soft plastic I had tied on from years prior and didn't bother to retie my knot. As expected, the ferocious Spotted Bay Bass and Halibut didn't mind one bit.

Photos of specific soft plastic that were used? An excerpt from the movie Jerry McGuire: Show me the $$$$$$$ :biggrinjester:

can't wait for the blog and photos of the spotties circling under your boat!

I can't either; it's going to be sick!

I see you holding a spottie and I can't help but wonder what a spottie can be used as bait for...

All Spotted Bay Bass were unharmed in the making of this fishing report. I've found out that Halibut will eat anything that fits in their mouth, though. ;)

X2 Sad.....

I still think you would have caught more Halibut in San Diego Bay last month, Eric. There's always next month, right?

The day i fishied I made a huge mistake I only brought one beer and it got warm fast :cheers1:

I would have brought beer, but I had to use a paddle this day. Which just made my next trip with the pedals that much more fulfilling. After being on the Pro Angler for the past few trips, I damn near fell out of the boat when I set the hook on that first spottie!

well there goes the neighborhood.

Yes, San Diego Bay is an exclusive fishing club with an astringent filtering process; with a go big or go home attitude attached. I was just passing through---have at it. It's yours for the taking! :gnorsi:

That's measly little thing from the bay can't be it. :p

You always bring a wealth of knowledge with your posts. All this time I thought turdrollers were Sand Bass. Thanks. :you_rock:

Here's hoping you get to pose a little more with nice sized Bass. :cheers1:

Voluptuous fish, that's funny. Does that halibut have a lip jewelry?

The Halibut was wearing lip jewelry, which I kept. No Halibut were harmed in the making of this post. Briefly blinded by the flash, but otherwise happy as can be.

Go get 'em, boys!
