tried to get out there Tuesday morning, but couldn't wake up..
finally got out there this morning, and barely woke up....
all you want greenies in all areas under and south of the pier..
started the slow troll around 6am in the usual spots.. very beautiful water conditions..
3 - 8-10# YTs for me.. one on bait, saw a couple packs of breezer and got two on the surface plug.. none of these little guys fought worthy enough to get gaffed so i released them all.. was hoping for big momma but not meant to be for me..... saw a few bendos going around the yak fleet this morning so a fun morning had by many..
threw in the towel around 9am..
feels good to be out there again, it's been a while...

Right on Nelz, we've missed you out there.
Nice work on the C&R Nelz. It's spicy hamachi (your recipe) for the crew here at work today.
I was late to the beach, probably 5:45. By the time I got to the pier, the bait was scattered. I tried for a little while and didn't see other making any, so I headed back across the canyon empty. Adi donated a spanish and some catfood and I picked a few pieces near the kelp. I didn't need them. I only got picked up by a calico on the way in. It was a slow day for me.
Nelz, I think I saw you catch your last one. I was in a little shallower than you. I didn't see much activity, but did see one yellow on the beach.

I picked up the bottom blue mac, they suspend and are made to be cast. can't wait to get out there and toss it on the Seeker Inshore.
I know what you mean about getting up, Monday the kitchen light HURT, when I turned it on and I had more than one customer comment on my "grumpy demeaner"....and I caught fish that morning :D Working in this heat has kicked my ass :D I may just go tomorrow anyway

Thanks for the report. It looked a little chopped up out there yesterday.
This guy is my all time favorite. He catches fish.

Right on Adi. It looks like I started heading in too early. I could have sworn I was paddling next to you around that time. I must have just missed you hook the first one.
Nice Adi! Late morning surprise!

Nelz- With a engine, you better be charging the nine mile bank for some of that DODO action . I just got back from the East Cape and I'm already Jonesing about getting a Yeller.

It was nice seeing you out there today, Nelz. Good job nailing the fish. It looks like you were the hot stick, even if they weren't the toads you hoped for.
Adi, it was nice talking with you too. As far as we could tell your double made you runner-up high man. That 16 lber was one fat fish for his length. We were a little surprised Aaron's yellow only weighed 16 lbs. It had yours by a few inches in length, but your shoulders were obviously thicker. Here's the shot on the water:

Two of our fellow DPKFM members caught their 1st kayak yellowtails (congratulations to Jack and Damian). Nothing really big, but at least they broke the ice :)
Other than that, we would have to say it was real slow, compared to the last few days when people were nailing multiples. There were many yakkers and private boaters and it didn't look like many people were scoring.
Welcome back Nelz. I always look forward to your reports. Nice catchin, to those that scored!
I hope all the boats decide to look for dorado on the paddies come Saturday! It's going to be crazy out there :!:

It's refreshing to hear a little C&R being practiced with all the doink yellows being caught. Most of these don't even need the gaff, just lip em' like a bass.
When's the last time anyone caught dorado off La Jolla?
Thanks for the report Nelz.

Moyer,

IMO, those dodos are a blast on spinning gear. Just crank a bucktail across the top of the water, and watch them gallop after it! At least I caught them that way in the Yucatan and here in 1992(?).

wish i could have tried a bucktail!! today offshore they would only eat sardines.. we tried to have some fun with them and they didn't want the surface poppers, megabait, 7x, or swimbait... they are packed on almost every paddy we saw and it's pretty much easy limits on dodos right now.. we had some really good grade 20-25+# yt's on the paddys too..
