Slow start with one boney around 7AM, then 3 YT between 8-9 and another around 9:30. All on greenbacks, 3 were caught on straight 40# spectra. Released the 2 smaller ones.

Congrats on the flat points! I was out there from 6:00 till 8:30am, bait was crashing the surface all over from the bouys out to the half and down south of the condo. Only caught a small cuda and two small bonita.

Ya, I broke off my leader on one and was too lazy to cut mono from one rig, uni it and tie a hook on, so I just straight tied to the spectra, sure can feel every lil headshake and tail beat. Can not imagine straight spectra on a big fish, it would mess you up.
The halibut............... I was going to claim it on the beach, but this guy finally came back
Joel (F'n Sabiki)Said he caught it waaaay out. Said he was working out an over run when the low rigged mac went off.

Nice day on the water there ICE.
I farmed more than I bagged. Gotta leave the cell phone in the truck and disregard work while I'm getting bit. Think I'll change the name of my Company to Not While The Fishing is Good Construction Co. :D
Hooked a dozen. Caught 6 total in the 10 - 14# range.
Kept 4 and gave 2 to my mojo lacking Buddy who suffered a day w/o a single hookup. Sorry Nick - you'll get em next time.
Nice But Joel.

Why do you guys use leader on Spectra?
The main reason I use spectra is to get em out of the kelp. The use of mono leader still allows this as you let the fish run beyond the leader length and then saw it out. I also use it to make it easier to replace the leader with fresh line every trip or two, as well as varying between 20,25 and 30 mono and fouro.
The 2 main reasons I don't tie straght would be a lack of confidence in getting fish to bite it, it is thin, but opaque. I was surprized that it was getting bit as the water was VERY clean. I was running the straight spectra on my short line, so there was likely very little line was dragging in the water.
The second reason is a mono topshot acts a shock absorber, preventing the hook from working a big hole in the fish and pulling out. When I use low stretch flouro leader, I like a light tipped "270" type rod to act as the shock absorber.

Yeah I've seen the big hole on a 12lb Bonito.....the fish maybe able to see the opaqueness but birds are blind to it as I found out recently while chasing a bait boil and dragging a live bait and the pelicans kept running into my line almost pulling me over once which I've never had happen on mono.

That was a nice day out there. It was good to see you again Andy.
I caught a #10 yellow out there, brought it home for a snack. Caught the little guy with a blue and white JIMI JIG that Dennis gave me. I also landed a white seabass that was only around 20 inches off the JIMI. Release him to be caught another day. That was a huge flatty. I wonder how much it ended up weighing.
