pool noodles and random question

Hey guys/gals,

I'm a new kayak owner and I've been looking for somewhere/anywhere that sells pool noodles to use on my roof rack. The problem is, no one seems to sell them in the winter time so I'd like to know if anyone knows of a store that sells them this time of year.

ALSO, I was thinking about my future kayak fishing adventures and thought about rod leashes and paddle leashes and "what if a kayak angler lost his/her kayak...would you need a kayak leash so your kayak and all your gear don't drift away? I know this probably sounds dumb (and believe me it sounds dumb to me too) but I'd like to hear some thoughts :iamwithstupid:

Yea you would need a kayak leash if you can't swim. However if you can't swim I would suggest another sport. Just a safety precaution.:confused:

if you leash yourself to your yak because of strong current or wind or whatever, DO NOT use it while launching or landing in the surf.

I agree with Low, you could use a leash in high wind and current conditions where you might not be able to catch up to your yak when separated. But do not attach it until you are clear of the surf zone.

AS far as where to buy noodles at this time of year, you might want to try Big Lots, or maybe Wal-Mart.

I bought some at sports authority but it was in the summer time.

If you can't swim please make sure you're wearing your pfd at all time. I would also suggest you take up some swimming lessons

I seen the pool noodles at big 5 and Lowes...
Thats a great idea to hook your self up to the kayak... Heck i can beat a rock to the bottom of the ocean with my swimming prowress. What would be a good length for the leash???

A long time ago I saw some TV show that talked about the dangers of using a leash to attach oneself to a watercraft.

Do some research, a lot of it. I remember something about a quick release on both ends of the leash AND a knife on your PFD.

If wind/current strong nough to b faster than u can swim, likely to drown. Even being pulled super slow at wierd angle can b catastrophic If ur arm or neck gets tangled ud nvr reach a quick release. Don't do it. Carry VHF or epirb in pocket of PDF n wear it. That is ur best bet if uget separated on ur own.

Thanks guys i do have a VHF with me and it is leashed to my PFD. Also have a knife on me as well. Maybe i should start a new thread..
