Kevin Nakada, The Kid on BWE, has decided to give us all a holiday treat!

Kevin put together an awesome write up on surface iron fishing, something we all know he enjoys the most. He went into great detail describing every aspect of this fun and rewarding fishing technique, providing his insights on everything from rod, reel, line, to the magic jig to use.

In my humble opinion, I think it's one of the best articles on a particular fishing technique I have ever read. One of those that you need to print out, re-read until you memorize in full, and take what you learned with you on the water. :) Definitely a required reading.

Great info Kevin. Luckily I got to share your passion this year. It will probably be one of the most memorable fishing experiences of my life.

I think one of the other hard things I dealt with was locating the fish and then executing that cast. If you happen to stumble upon boiling fish it can be such a nerve wrecking heart pounding flash before your eyes. So much can go wrong in those few seconds if your not ready. If you see fish blowing up the surface and then completely choke on your cast you will replay that moment over and over and over. It sucks....

I don't care what time of year it is or how cold it is. I never leave my 93h at home.

Forget the diagrams...
I'm sure there are plenty of us who would pay good money for an instructional video...
there are a million instructional videos on fly fishing and fly casting...
I want one for the the long rod...
first and foremost on casting the long rod...
and then video the good swimmer next to the bad swimmer etc...
I'll be the first order!
where do I pay?
and if there's a good instructional video out there somewhere...
please point me in the right direction...

I realize time on the water and practice is the key...
but, learning the mechanics of "the right way" is priceless...

on a good day I only hit about 75...averaging 70 or so...

Also, thanks for taking me and the others under your wing the other day and putting us on some nice bottom fish. I meant to do this sooner but I wanted to try out your recipe for sheephead first. I've made it three times. I haven't perfected the execution but I can see what I'm aiming at. Not only do you know how to catch fish, you know how to cook 'em. :you_rock:
