Disregard the cut off date on the application, it states January 5th post dated deadline. This has been extended.
I would put my money on a kayak angler taking the $150 biggest spottie!
Likely 20-30 guys competing for a $500 OEX gift card. This would buy alot of nice stuff............nicer seat, paddle.....extra mirage drive. pfd, apparel, anything we sell.
Crack the top 25 and you will be in the Spring Invitational.
You are also competing against the boating teams for $1500 1st place price, with payouts for the top 25.

Is the weigh in for Kayakers different from the boaters?
Will there be weigh boats or is it all done on shore?
Iceman
01-21-2012, 04:38 PM
Jimmy, no weigh boats and we are just sponsoring the prize. Entry is done through SD Anglers.

looks like that area is outside of the mouth of the bay and out of bounds for the tourny?
PS. that also looks pretty close to the new "cabrillo mpa"

Nah ... that pic is much farther inside the bay than the picture must appear. Especially since I was pointing toward the mouth of the bay, and not a side shot of the bay.
Looking at a map, with legal fishing for the tournament is to draw a line from "Point Loma to Zuniga Point" and anywhere within the SD Bay.
Of course, the way the tide in that area pulls at ya, you could be over that invisible tournament line before you know it.
The mpa is still out there a ways from the pic, and around the corner just a bit. I was parallel to Pt Loma most of the day, and not around Cabrillo point.

I was reading the rules and it states that no fined bait are allowed on the boat before launch, but Squid strips are, are they talking like 5 strips, or what? I would mind having a little squid along for the ride.

I talked to Wayne about that,he said one tray of squid from market was fine.they are trying to discourage people that take 50lbs.he said they had people show up with a bucket of chopped up squid.

That's what I was thinking. I'm probably going to get a tray and have it all chopped before the tourney. That way I don't have to cut it on the water. Why do we have to wait a week? I want to fish now.

Ya, this tournament implements rules to level the field, one year it was won pulling fish under the bait barge......no longer allowed, one year guys chummed garbage cans of fish carcass from the landing they worked for.........no longer allowed.
Hey Andy will you have any OEX Stickers with you? Since getting my new Yak I haven't stickered it up as well as my other one was. Brent will actually have an OEX booth set up there, along with a BUNCH of other vendors.
Eric (not you Eric D)......thanks for the morning chuckle :D I don't mind fielding questions.
Get em in today LAST DAY to mail off your entry!!!

Start time will be approximately 6:15AM.
Brent and I have volunteered to help Mike and Dwayne check in all the kayakers. We will do so, on the sidewalk above the beach to the right of the boat launch. We plan to start checking people in at 5:15AM. You will need to present us with the letter you should have received already. You will have the option of entering the halibut pot for $5, biggest halibut will be worth more than $500.
If you are signing up the morning of, bring $65 cash and $5 for the halibut pot, if interested.
Brian Sanner won the biggest spottie award last year from the kayak, let's do it again! Biggest spottie wins $150, biggest bass over all wins $250. 1st place in the kayak division wins $500 gift certificate at OEX and you also get to compete with the boats. 1st place is $1500, they usually pay down to 20th place. TONS of raffle prizes and killer food after.
You need to be in line to weigh your fish by 2pm!
