Launched around 4:00 PM.

No surf.

Swell mixed with ten knot winds made for sloppy paddling.

Made perfecto greenies inside in front of the flag.

Proceeded to paddle to edge of the kelps.

Then the boilermakers showed up.

I had a greenie on one side and jointed greenie swim bait (which I purchased at the suggestion of AC when I ran into him at Squidco) on the other.

The Dolphin was closing in on the school when both of my rods go zzzzzzzzzzzziiiiiiinnnngggooo.

I grab swim bait rod and work it hard. Gaff the YT right in front of the Dolphin and give out an overly zealous (dry streak ending) wahoo!! 8)

I secure number one. I can still feel rod number two twitching.

Lucky for me Number two was heading straight for Catalina ( with most of my line)!

I put the wood to him and he comes up tired and succumbs to the gaff. Again right behind the Dolphin.

Not huge fish, however a fun and beautiful afternoon on the water.

Ken

How not huge? Like, under 16?

Congrats on the breakthrough. Long overdue. Does this mean you're ready to go on a tear again? "Golden Boy" was doing his thing again this morning and Mr. Consistent was as well so we better start shredding it to keep em honest. I'm thinking Sat to look for the flat kind. What you think?

Thanks guys and gals! :D

Brad I’ll be spending the weekend with my daughter Jane. So no big game hunting for me.

I’d suggest large flat things sixty feet deep off the GP, good luck!

Nelz, I have managed to wreck every reel I’ve fished with. The kayak environment is brutal on machines and electronics. This is my second saltiest. They are very smooth, a poor mans saltiga. The Avets are at the
factory getting some needed attention, however not frozen.

See you out there in the AM as soon as I can get these wolves off my ass at work!

i hear ya Ken, i've been using the poor man's Trinidad and they've been working awesome.. minimal maintence except lubing the bearings every so often..
my Accurates can't cast for sh*t and they're pretty much overkill for LJ.
i'm convinced that you don't need anything more than a Torium16 for LJ.. i've yet to have a YT that smokes more than 25 yards off in any given run... and if it did, you're screwed anyways with all the structure around and how close we've had to fish next to kelp this year..

those Saltist look sweet..

One word for you Ken...Trinidad. Mine was bought used, has taken all the abuse and lack of care I can give it, and is still my sweetest reel. I know they are pricey but, like you, I've probably trashed several half-price reels in the same time. Have a good weekend with the little one, I'll miss the harassment on the water   .

Very nice, Ken - and in the wake of the Dolphin ... extra points for that. Thanks again for the lift after the LJKF-Moyer Q. I still owe you that beer. Have a great weekend with your gal.
