Hobie Outback or Revo...

First, a little intro :cool:

Hey guys, I've been trolling the forums for years...I've owned a FnD and Malibu X-Factor in the past and fished SDB, MB, and La Jolla mainly. Unfortunately I had to give both up due to a shoulder injury I acquired during my time in Iraq...Since selling the yaks back in 2007...I've been jealously watching all the yakanglers from my fishing spots on piers or shoreline :mad:

Now that I got the OK to go yak fishing from my doctor and even talked the old lady into letting me yak fish agian. I will be Hobie shopping... My shoulder injury isnt painful, I just can not load over my head...My left shoulder muscle is very weak...As long as I can load it on the back of my truck Im fine...

So now to my question:
What is the difference between the OUTBACK and REVOLUTION? besides from the obvious shape ;)

I plan on fishing out of lakes, bays, and of course the ocean..

Any advice would be well apreciated :notworthy:

If you are looking for comparable stability and comfort, go with the Outback.

It has a higher payload. It is wider so your center of gravity is higher, which makes it more comfortable. It is also wider and flatter across the seat, making it roomier.

Locally, you can talk to the guys at Oceanside Dive & Kayak. They have demo Hobies.

Best part, for no extra cost you get some nice fish ju-ju with your yak.

Maiden voyage on my new ride from them = :D

I like the outback for the room, it is slow. If you want speed the revo is faster and cuts through the water better.

Ivan, are you considering the PA? I went thru the same thought process and I'm stuck between The Revo and PA. Go test them both, bring your paddle and seat. that way you will get a fair comparison with what you will be using.

The PA looks huge. For those that have one how does it handle surf launches and returns? Ive considered it. But the size makes me think its a lot slower than my fnd and xfactor.

I plan in test peddling the hobies on weds.

The PA handles the surf very well. Real stable. But it is also rather heavy. Might not be a good pick for your shoulder.

As for the Revo versus the Outback, as was said previously, the Outback is a tad wider and thus more stable. I also own an Outback and am very happy with it, and it is light enough to lift easily into the back of the truck. My 14 year old grandson does it all the time.

I'm 5'11" and weigh about 225lbs so if I were you I would first take height and weight into consideration, the revo is roughly 5inches narrower than the outback and is less stable. I know 5inches does not seem like a lot but if you're a bigger boy like me once you sit in the yak you'll feel and see the difference............immediately.
