Two Fold Question:

I know this might sound amateurish in the most rudementary form, but can you use a droper loop on braid, with a mono/floro leader of about a 2ft for the hook?

And what kind (shape) of sinker would be best suited for drifting? I know current, depth, and bottom dictate; but I'm just curious what kind of weight(s) is used most frequently for halibut.

Note: I use a carolina keeper quite frequently, but I haven't for drifting.

Yea, it should be fine, must add leader... i did that all the time when drifting halibut, seems no problem..

As for the sinker, i usually use any ball shape sinker.

What i do is take my spool of mono/fluoro that will be used and make the connection from your braid to mono/fluoro and then make the cut for your leader after my connection is made. That way if i use too long of a tag end for my leader line then i can make the right length leader because i havent made the cut yet. Sucks cutting 3-4 feet off that expensive spool of seaguar and then realizing you effed up the knot now your not going to have enough leader to make it work.

Considering you mention halibut im guessing you will be rigging the dropper reversed. I like using torpedo sinkers when fishing the reverse dropper for halibut. Like you said, current, depth, and wind dictate the size of the sinker.

If you use a dropper loop off the braid your gonna find yourself getting twisted an tangled alot. Im by no means the go to expert on hali fishing but I have had luck on multiple occasions using a carolina keeper, 1oz egg and a live bait hook on the drift. If I set up a traditional hali rig I always use a 1-2oz torpedo sinker, but you can use heavier in deeper swifter moving water. Hope this helps.

I've tried the dropper loop on straight braid but because braid has a lot of slippage it doesn't hold the loop/knot very well and just like Mr Novotny said, it will get twisted and get twisted fast.

Do you know what is the best way to undo a twisted line of braid?

You probably don't want to use the braid loop to attach your sinker to. Braid frays easily, and your weight is going to be bouncing off the bottom.

Ball weights work good for bouncing along without getting buried in the sand, torpedos/inline weights work well for preventing snags.
