Ive been seeing alot of really nice mods on here lately and it got my brain working. This is a simple but useful creation I came up with, mainly because I like the options that the ram mount tube holders give you but I dont like alot of things protruding when it comes to loading and unloading....plus im cheap. Its just a couple pieces of pvc w/ a 45° elbow. (excuse the color, this was a special order for big one) http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/williamnovotny/IMG_20120220_093057.jpgfits snug and can be adjusted any number of ways http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/williamnovotny/IMG_20120220_093119.jpg http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/williamnovotny/IMG_20120220_093127.jpg http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee392/williamnovotny/IMG_20120220_093143.jpg I'm going to make this for all 4 if my flush mounts using black pvc so it looks cleaner and I will also flare out the tips of the pvc so its easier to put the rods in.

Decided to not fish today so I could install the transducer and have a full day of cure time. Next is the livewell, should be operational by next week. I tried to do the Green Monster justice on my maiden voyage with her but walked away yesterday with a big old skunk.

Nice! I made something similar for trolling on my Outback. Dunno how much play the PVC has in the rod holder, but I added some closed cell foam around the base and wrapped it in electrical tape to keep it from moving around.

If you add a 1-1/2 pvc coupler to the bottom side it will eliminate play. You can also notch the coupler so that it locks on to the gimbal hump built into the rod holder. Hope that makes sense, I kinda did the same thing for a Go-Pro mount and it came out pretty nice. I can take pictures if needed

If you know someone with a lathe they can turn 1 1/4" PVC to fit. You have to take about .040 off total. Be careful though the plastic likes to grab and it can go flying if you are not careful. Only use a metal lathe and a center. That's how I did mine.

Just take a belt sander and go to town. Grind that baby down and it will fit nice and snug.

LOL :D Yeah I'm lucky I have a small lathe. After the Navy, I went into machining and welding. Went back to school after the machining trades started to crap out. Got my bachelor and master degrees and now I'm an adjunct humanities prof., just in time for that career to crap out. lol Thank god I fish, it's the only thing that keeps my sanity sometimes.

If you heat up a 6 - 8 inch section of pvc on your stove, and stretch it by about 1/2 inch, it should shrink the diameter to something very close. Then some very minor sanding to fine tune it. Keep the pvc spinning the entire time you are heating it and don't heat it any more than you need to for stretching it.

Also, start with enough pvc that you have extra on either end to hold on to. Then cut off one end.

Man I must be really short, those rod holders seemed a little to far for me in there current location. You gotta get some blood on that thing. Sorry again I left it smelling like halibut when I dropped it off to you....:D
