Today Fish and Game Commission President Dan Richards emphatically refused to resign. He granted WON an interview, and you can also see his letter responding to Hueso. It's a must read.

RESOLUTE RICHARDS REFUSES TO RESIGN

Speaking calmly this morning from the cozy confines an office filled with mementos of an outdoor life, Dan Richards left no room for doubt. The new president of the Fish and Game Commission will not resign his position over allegations he is unfit to serve for participating in a legal mountain lion hunt in Idaho.

On Friday, forty state assemblymen lead by Ben Hueso and Jared Huffman signed a letter demanding Richards’ step down. They were later joined by Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, who acted as governor while Jerry Brown was out of state.

Richards released his formal response this afternoon in a letter stating he has no plans to resign. Addressed to Hueso, it reads in part:

"There is ZERO chance I would consider resigning my position as President of the California Fish and Game Commission and it is my sincere hope that you and your colleagues reassess your request and instead work positively with our Commission and Department for the betterment of the resources we're entrusted to manage."

"While I respect our Fish and Game rules and regulations, my 100 percent legal activity out of California, or anyone else's for that matter, is none of your business."

Gambling? Hell, all those politicians would have been crucified for their visits to the Chicken Ranch. All kidding aside, he put together a very good response :luxhello:.

A cool headed, respectable politician? I never knew those words could actually be used in the same sentence! Richards is the man. Give him all of your support because he is the only fair figure in the commission. Outdoorsman=Good Political Figure. America needs more help from guys like him.

I'm not a hunter, and have no interest in doing so. But I support Richards right to hunt legally 100%. The fact that the LEGAL things you do in your free time could cause you to lose a position or job, just makes my head spin. Please write your state representative and the Lt. Gov. on Richards behalf.

I sent Lt. Gov Newsome an email. If you send him an email, letter, or call remind him to not throw stones from his glass house. Esp since he banged his campaign managers wife.

http://www.ltg.ca.gov/m_contact.asp Thanks for the link. I gave him my two cents. I was definately fired up when I heard (finally) the response to this weak-@ss attempt to get him out of there. Sounds like we finally have a sportsman for a commisioner.

Everyone should stand up and take notice....

This is a prime example of Kalifornia Quack Liberal activity. You can not sit on your a$$ and let these people dictate to you, tell you how to run your life, or make the decisions they deem are in your best interest.

-They're Wrong - plain and simple, and its wrong for anyone to force feed you A Life.
----------------------------
Instead I sincerely hope it encourages each and every one of you to step up when your freedoms are threatened (as so many of us have done in the past few years ) and rub their faces in the gravel.

Fight back at every opportunity and resist complacency.
----------------------------
We are stronger then they are and we can win.

We are winning and will continue to Win.

Fight Back Hard! Fight to Win !

Especially when we're the ones paying these jackasses through our taxes. You're right, it's time to stand and fight.

My supposedly conservative local representatives didn't do jack $h1# when it came to the MLPA. They damn well better lend some support to Dan Richards.

Pile on, pile on, pile on that Kayak America Fishing support link.

Richards has earned our support.

And if there's any way you can, run up to Riverside on the 7th for the next commission meeting. It should be a zoo, complete with nutcases on parade. Afterward, roll to Long Beach for Fred Hall's opening day.

“His influence on the commission has been marginalized,” Hueso claimed.

Richards could very well lose his position as president regardless.
His fellow commissioners on Wednesday quietly repealed the rules that govern how presidents are chosen. That 4-1 vote, with Richards opposing, sets the stage for commissioners to potential demote Richards at its May 23 meeting.

“He wasn’t elected by a majority,” Hueso said. “That’s a loophole that needs corrected.” The surprise move was made long after large numbers of hunters and fisherman, who spent the morning praising Richards and urging him to stand firm, had left the meeting.

Tell us about it.
Todays new question in the UT.
Does it matter to you that a California fish and game commissioner legally killed and ate a mountain lion in another state?
1. Yes
2. No
