They're hard to find on CL but are readily available new....of course. Anyway, I will not be doing any towing with it, it will be used to support an extender similar to the one pictured below. I plan to start using my civic to carry my outback, have the extender, now I need the hitch.

That's part of the plan. The car has a sunroof so I cannot afford to just lay the kayak on the roof.

I really miss my yellow rope:(

That's the plan, Stan. However, because the Civic is a two door the racks would sit to close to each other, they would only support about 25% of the kayak compared to my Accord which is a coupe and supports about 50% of the kayak.

I saw those last night, they're about the same price locally so if I can't find a used one in the next week or so I will buy a new one.
I just found a new one at Uhaul for $120......I'll probably head there tomorrow

Coupe Schmoupe. Hahahaha. :D
This is how I transport on my wife's Beetle, because they never made roof racks for my 240SX.
The two yellow straps keep the yak from sliding horizontally. Front and rear straps keep the yak from sliding longitudinally.
This setup is solid to 75mph... never really tried to venture above that.
For reference, the yak is a Pelican 130T with a 36" beam and 13'0 length, so it's not a small yak by any means.

Thanks, I had to do SOMETHING to inject some testosterone into the car. My wife doesn't like to ride in my car because the stiff suspension forces her to either be uncomfortable or wear a sports bra. So when we go out together, I often end up driving the Beetle.
Apologies for the hijack. Now back to our regularly scheduled program. :p

I decided to go with the rack with an extender added. The extend-a-bed gizmo has to much play and wobbles uncontrollably.

HA!! I wish!
Actually, it was closer to $200, I forgot about the front wind deflector. I already had the bars, Q towers and locks but I needed new Q clips for my Civic.
2 sets of Q clips : $70 + tax
Extender: $75 on Craigslist
Used wind deflector: $24 + tax @ REI
