What an idiot, you'd think he'd have the sense to turn autopilot off coming in to an area with as much boat traffic! What a DUMBO!! :bigear:

That is way too close for comfort. I have a feeling we may see this kind of thing happen hear with everyone forced to fish in a smaller area. Thank God he lived to tell the story.

Wow scary stuff,
I know we all look out for boat traffic and look out for one another,
this shows just how important it is...

Jim my last two times out on San Diego bay out of Shelter Island I have almost been run over by rich snobs on their Sail boat practicing for some race. 1 guy didn't even see me until I blew my whistle at him, and the other guy made a comment of, "I bet you get people buzzing by you all the time." Are people really that stupid? I already know the answer to that question. It may be time to start recording boat reg. numbers a reporting some of these jokes.

that is one reason in NZ they have a law that you must have a bright colored flag on your kayak. Don't know that it would have helped in this instance but being seen is pretty important in high traffic areas.

I'm always looking out for those boaters... I cannot trust that they see us paddling in front of them. So I paddle out of their way all the time. Better safe than sorry. In the incident of the kayaker from down under, I'm glad all turn out alive and in good condition. Fcuk a beer! you owe me a new boat and some extra for the pain and suffering.

Holy Crap. Maybe I have a too vivid imagination but I can easily picture that mutilated kayak replaced by a body. There's a closed casket afair. I know this was macho Australia, but a post crash change of clothes, a beer, and ride to the dock seams a bit slim on the restitution. How about a day in court, huge fines, monitary restitution, and maybe a bit o time in jail. Or seeing that this was in Australia, at least a major beat down in the marina parking lot.
I rode a bike on my commute commute for years and have the same defensive attitude on my kayak. I just assume they dont see me. Mike

Love the Idea for the ol' glory flag!
What kind of pole you have it on?

The pole was originally from some landscaping company, at least that's what it looked like based on the old flag that was on it. It's only as thick as a ballpoint point and is made of fiberglass so it will flex quite a bit.
