I will know forsur if the sit on top kayaks are ok I know sit in kayaks are
but normally I use about 8lb test and troll with a rooster tail, and a gulp minnow or a rattle trap then have a cast master on hand for if I see them busting ontop

7am-5pm. And you must wait on the shoulder of 138 for the gates to open and not directly behind the gate or else they'll ticket you. Also, make sure your kayak is dry. Sit-on-top is questionable on that lake--someone please confirm.

Sit on tops are 100% ok at the wood. This is my home lake, I fish it at least 3 times a month on my yak. Water temps have been low so not much striper lately. It can kick off at any time. I'll post more on rigging once I get home from work.

also going in threw the gate is only for people that want to park in the parking lot I fish where you dont have to pay for parking and less of a paddle/peddle to where we will be going

Do you get your yak inspected at the gate then travel to your launching point?

Yeah I was going to be there regardless. Heads up unless you do quite a hike with your yak all entry points are closed other than the main entrance. It's worth it to just pay the $10 and back up to the water.

My sit in kayak i did but I will be getting My new PA inspected
But it will pass it hasn't seen water yet
IT WILL BE ITS MAIDEN VOYAGE BABY!!!
and anyways the place I was going to the roads are still blocked off due to the winter freezes I herd so we will just be meeting at the gates and launch from the boat ramps

For stripers I bring my calico bass set up, spooled with 30lb spectra and fling the hell out of some swimbaits, waxwings, any big lure you have basically. For trolling I will put on a rat-l-trap or rapala.
For a bait rod, I fish 12-17lb line and let it drift while I work a lure.
Silverwood held the state record on Striped bass for quite a few years and there are still some bigguns in the lake. Last spring I saw a guy pull up a 26lber. The bite has been real slow lately but can blow open at any time. Hopefully that will be on Sunday.
I'm going to be there on Sunday, there is a kayak launch but it is best to use the boat launch so you have a straight paddle to the dam. Just drive straight in and park by the marina retail store and you can unload and wheel your yak to the ramp.

Yakin, What do you mean by "inspected"? Who inspects the yaks out there? Is there something that the yaks should be outfitted with specifically for this lake/ are there rules along those lines for yaks? I tried looking that info up but I couldnt find anything.
I should be getting my new Stealth 12 from OEX at the end of next week and plan on striper fishing this lake the following week during the week (weekdays).

They just want to see that its dry, make sure there is no moisture on the inside. Other than that, never had a problem at silverwood great lake to fish. Wind does come up around 11 most days!

The just check to see if everything you bring on your yak like your PDF seat and even the hull of your yak is dry and has no intruders on the outside or inside from a contaminated lake is all
if you go try not to bring a trailer because then you will have to sit in the boat like for inspection
uf you have it ontop of a car or in the bed of a truck or on a lader rack you can just drive into the car line it is a lot quicker just make sure to get there kind of early the line can sometimes be long and I herd spring break starts this weekend also
Some additional info on Silverwood:
- They inspect for mussels being transferred between waterways.
- The lake is closed Wednesday and Thursdays until April 30th.
- The lake often gets windy anytime after 10:00, mostly blowing from the boat launch towards the dam. Whitecaps are not uncommon in the afternoons. Conditions and A-hole boaters can make for a rough paddle back from the dam, the main channel is a wide-open speed limit.
- Jetskiers there have no brains.

I met Yakin and Yakmedic out there, but they called it an early day. I stayed out there until 5pm. The wind started to pick up 11-ish and was blowing like 20-40mph all throughout the day, lots of chop and white caps. It was tough, even for the hobie.
Oh, they don't call it Skunkwood for nothing. However, we did see some guys with nice sized 25"-30" stripers at the cleaning station.

Man thats rough! The weather wasnt looking too good in the am here in Rancho but it sure cleared up real nice later in the day... Saw some reports from Silverwood Lake Marina stating stripers were doing well near the dam and main channel. 32 lb Striper caught on a swimbait near the marina area too. When I get my yak this week, I'll be down for trying Silverwood for some stripers next week. Sounds like they're starting to bite.

Over by the spillway, a vessel recovering team was looking/diving for a boat that sank there. They told me to stay clear of that area while they scanned the bottom.
