Hobie Door Seals

Not sure if this is normal or not but the doors on my kayak hatches and bait tank are usually hard to close, before most trips I spray a little WD40 on the inside of the hatch and door seals just to help when I close them. Is this normal on most Hobies? I don't recall if they were like this when I bought the kayak but I have noticed that some of the seals appear to be slightly stretched. Again, just curious if other Hobies have the same issue or if my seals have goes back and need to be replaced.

they do need to be replaced over time, about $6 a piece. Stop looking at yourself in the mirror you keep in there! :D

Wipe off that WD-40 with denatured alcohol.
Those are silicone o-rings
use silicone grease

Yeah dood, those things need to be replaced. If you don't use your back hatch, you can swap out that one with your center hatch gasket. That will work until you can swing by and pick up a couple. Also you can use the gasket from your bait tank. When you do replace them make sure to lightly coat them with silicon grease.

First off, take the gasket off your bait tank hatch. I'm sure you aren't too worried about water getting in there?

It seems like all those center hatches get tighter with age.
