Because it was sunny and I worked off my farmer tan.

Cold breeze on and off throughout the day. Water was chilly but not uncomfortable. Saw 3' swells at the most.

Put in late and Saw J3FFro who later tipped me off to some rock fish, but I didn’t poach his spot. Caught up to gupppy and made bait while trolling a rattle trap around the coastguard station and through the jetty. Met min-va, then gupppy and I made our way to the kelp beds.

Jigged a warblade for a short strike. Flylined my smallest mac for no results. gupppy had to head out about 1 so i followed him back to see him off then fished the slips around the guard station with a slayer head & 3" bay smelt for no results.

Made my way back to the kelp tried to jig a 3/4oz slayer & 4" calico killer but by then the current was moving and it took forever to sink. Stepped it up to a 1 1/2 oz 5" and got several strikes but couldn’t get anything to stick. Just for kicks I threw a 1oz spinner into the boilers. Also no results. Saw lots of garibaldi and a few spider crabs so high on the stringers that i could have touched them with my paddle. Watched a harbor seal play peekabo with me for about 5 minutes. On my back in I was escorted briefly by a pair of dolphins.

Question. If all you do is make bait, does that beat the skunk?

Hey, at least you made bait. Sounds like it's tough to do that down south. BTW, blades on the boilers can kill on the right day.

Sometimes I get a little queezy when tying knots while in some swell. I found that is is easier to shake it off if I take my eyes off my kayak and focus my field of vision on somewhere between me and the horizon. Sometimes I have to use my hand or my hat to block the bow from view.

On sunday it was quite difficult to keep your eyes on the horizon when you have crazy swells..

I saw you guys as I was launching. I was in the blue Hobie.

Don't worry about the motion sickness. Happens to the best of us. I do multi-ay offshore trips and own a couple of boats, but still get queasy sometimes on the yak.

I ventured outside after I launched and turned around after getting about 100 yards out. I was taking too many waves over the bow for my comfort so I finished the day working the inside for 3 calicos, a spottie and a handful of mackerel.

Better than a skunk I say. Good luck next time.
