There's some guy that goes by the name of Buskid that should be able to tell you everything about that area.

E-mail me (jim@sabaslayer.com) and check out my website (sabaslayer.com).
I've fished the area a couple of times and I may be able to give you some insight to the area.

On the outside, pretty much all of the So Cal inshore species...Sand Bass, Calico Bass, Halibut, Cabezon, and some reef fish and perch. Jorge and BusKid are pointing you down south for WSB and YT if that's what you're looking for...those are here too on occasion, but far more rare of a catch...or less publicized. Catalina is a hop and a skip away on a sport boat tho when those species show.

On the inside/LA Harbor side, mostly bass and halibut.

Good luck with the move. Welcome to BWE.

Cool. Well, I'm coming from the gulf coast of Florida where hooking up with 30lb redfish, king mackerel, various sharks, snapper and grouper are not uncommon. I'm guessing mpa is a marine protection area? So no fishing whatsoever? I suppose I can drive and launch elsewhere. A friend of mine has a boat and regularly makes the trip to catalina.

Would love to catch yellowtail.

If you fish Cabrillo you might get lucky and catch a Kite Fish, they are extremely rare in the area but can be caught. Its estimated that only one in a few thousand to hundred thousand fisherman have ever caught one, it takes years of fishing and knowledge to hook one up. As far as I know I'm the only one that has ever caught one, that's why I'm considered a legend:D

A legend. A legend in his own mind.:D But he is the only person on earth who went from butt master to kite master, which is quite a feat.:star:Shoot, now we need a kite smiley. :hmmmm2:

Just took my maiden voyage out of King Harbor didn't do much fishing because I was concentrating on learning to paddle and getting the fell of the kayak. Saw a few other yakers out but everybody said it was slow. I have been surprised how hard it is to find any info on the area. Maybe everybody is right there is no fish here. Hopefully i can build my endurance up and make the paddle to PV i know there are some big home-guards there. Hope to see you out there I will be in the grey x-factor followed by the old ball in chain in a yellow x-factor. Any other info would be greatly appreciated.:drool5:
