Surf launch and reels

Yesterday I had a rough time during a surf launch and ended up getting swamped. Now two of my reels sound like peppermills and I get to spend the next couple nights getting familiar with their internals.

I'm wondering if neoprene reel covers would help keep the sand out or could they do more harm by retaining salt water.

I use reel covers but just to keep truck and boat rash away, they will help a little in the surf but not if you are in the brown water generally where you get flipped, I hate getting sand in the reels, gets expensive...

Anything will help, I use cheap sandwich bags and rubberbands. I'm more concerned with launching than landing. Kayaking is hard on the reels.

I am more worry about landing than launching.
Got flipped many times in LJ over the years while landing. (None in launching).
I always stow my reels under deck to save $$$. :p

Just go fast like I did haha. I'd use dry bags and stow Rods inside for a rougher launch.

Hold on. I gotta save some face here. Didn't flip, just spent too much time in the suds.

I usually stow every thing below deck but in my haste and gainst my better judgement I just set out. I'm glad I didn't stow them cause my front hatch wasn't secured properly and I took on probably five gallons of water and half of the beach. Then again maybe if they were stowed I would have checked that hatch. Whatever.

Shit man, it was glass when you paddled out. Took me 15 minutes to get everything rigged by then it was a different beach.

Launching and punching through waves that I have miss timed is when my reels get the most foamy sandy water exposure. Your right about flipping on the landing but if this happens and your reels are exposed nothing is going to help them.

With all the extras Im starting to take and install, Im starting to run out of room inside for more than three rods. Just exploring some options. Gotta get back to targeting one species in one area.
