Well, I finally got the time to put the tank together from the pieces I bought a month or two ago. Gave my bait tube to my float tube buddy, so if I wanted bait tomorrow I had to get on it! Anyways, it went smooth and I am happy with the results. I thank my Trader Joe's for donating the milk crate :)
Going to hit up Cabrillo tomorrow morning. Give me a yell if you make it out.

You are busted for using a milk crate in a manner not intended. Totally unlawful.

I hope the 'Crate Police' doesn't cite him:o

I supposed it would be the same enforcement people that look for torn tags off mattresses and pillows.
The fine can't be that big, it's only a crate right?
I actually found one on the side of a road. I looked for a return phone number and. . .well. . I really didn't try that hard, besides it fit perfectly on the kayak.

Thanks guys!
And in my defense, I am a manager at Trader Joe's and was "authorized" to take a crate :) I am sure the stores General Manager will expect some fish for payment...

For the internals I am trying a rotating 1-1/2inch 90' pipe with a very home made screen to keep the bait in and scales out :) I can rotate it to gain or lose about 3 - 4 inches on the level of the tank. I was going to drill to outlets for different levels but I am hoping this will work well.

Cool tank
for what it's worth you don't need the over flow tube, just let it drain into your tank well and out the scuppers, less is better
might want to get rid of the whole abs elbow inside while your at it
(more room for bait = happier bait) either plug it and drill some small over flow holes or find a screen to cover the hole
what Trader Joe's? caddington in Pedro or up in PV
Looks awesome!
Quick question, is that a Trident 13 in your picture? I have one, and am looking to add on a bait tank here soon. I like your crate idea. Kudos!

Thanks for the advice! This is my first attempt and I am sure I over thought it :) I am always sceptical about flowing water into the well, even though I know it will be fine. I'll look into maybe capping the outlet and drilling some holes if the bait seems to crowded in there.
I started at the Pedro store long ago. Since then I have worked at most of the South Bay stores. I was one of the Managers that built the PV store and I was there for it's first Two years. They just moved me down to Torrance on Hawthorne between 190th and Del Amo.

Thanks. You got it, it's a Trident 13! The crate fits nicely in the tank well. I tried to put the tank in there alone but felt I had to support it too much to keep it from moving. The crate utilizes the space well and gives me something to latch on to if needed. It also makes it easy to tie down the bait tank as it is attached to the crate. I also use the Plano 1612 Box that fits in the well just behind the seat for a dry box. The two in combo work well. It does take most of your useable tank well space and I haven't quite figured out how to deal with any large fish I may catch, but I'll deal with that when Hell decides to freeze over. :the_finger:

Interesting! Good info for sure, thank you. I'll have to give the bait tank a whack soon. Time to start shopping for parts!

Great idea!
I need to figure out a better outlet tube. I went with 1/2" and it was WAY to small.
I had water flowing out of the top of my tank!
I personally don't really like having the water flowing in the rear of my PA it adds just more weight!

For the drain outlet hose I use a 1 1/8 thru plug forn west marine Home depot sells a pump hose to fit, and to block off the outlet use a tub/sink screen drain and secure with 3 stainless screw with a stainless nut for a spacer between screen and outlet, abut 3/16 thick nut shoud do.
The less water on my yack the better..

what type of battery case is that?
It's a Pelican 1060 waterproof case. I picked it up at Fry's electronics of all places.
Yakin- I'm using a 1-1/2 male to 1-1/4 female nylon bushing I picked up at West Marine along with a 1-1/4 pipe thread to 1-1/4 hose 90' elbow. All the PVC was picked up at Lowes. If you have the option of getting the stuff at OEX though they should have everything you need there.

I got sick and tired of all the battery and wires corroding on using my bait tank. The only battery i use is on GPS on and a huge plastic cup to put fresh salt water in my bait tank every 10 mins or so.
