I guess it's technically the "Double" uni-knot (http://www.proknot.com/html/double_uni.html) I use. It seems very strong and I have yet to have one come undone. I saw it recommended a bunch when I was researching braid for the first time. I find it does snag sometimes on the eyes though if my leader is a bit long.

What knot do you use? I wouldn't mind losing that occasional snag on the eyes.

+1 I use a uni to uni for all my line to line connections. Works great, never tried it as a hook knot though, I like a good old Palomar or San Diego jam.

I have lost all faith in the double uni. I have every one I tied slip. (Testing with a weight in my house)

I would highly recommend learning to tie the Tony Pena. Just a couple practice sessions and now I feel very confident with my knots. The connection is very strong, hasn't slipped in testing or in actual use, and the tag end faces towards the reel for great passage through the guides.

Uni to uni works great, I use it for all braid/mono connections as well. Just make sure you slowly pull the knots together and watch that the loops dont overlap. Never had it break if tied correctly.

I was always told, and have personally experienced that the line will break before the Uniknot fails. I use it a lot too, mostly for when I'm tossing rubbers.

I think this might be able to help that breaking problem haha!
I can fix that too. For losing those old rubbers we don't like letting go of won't happen any more!

thanks for info everyone. I have used the uni to uni in the past but have moved away from it. Just changing my knot at the hook after losing a YT this year on a bad knot.

Another very strong uni-knot fan here (double meaning intended.) The "secret" to good uni-knots in mono or fluoro is to lubricate and pull up slowly using both the standing and tag ends. There's even a variation of the uni that produces a non-slipping loop, whic is great for lures that need a lot of freedom to produce the correct action. It's cleverly called the non-slip mono knot. For tying a hook to mono it's ok, but the SD knot is better.

I only use the uni to uni for 1 application. Solid spectra to solid spectra.
8 turns on each side will hold securely.

I know a lot of you like and use this knot for mono to spectra connections, but I've done some testing with this combination and have found if you don't perfectly shape and (short wet-draw) the knot it will burn the mono and the line will fail.
It takes too much attention to detail, and line handling to produce a good uni to uni with mono to spectra.
-The same doesn't apply when tying spectra to spectra connections with this knot.

The Tony Pena Knot.

A 12 wrap up, and 12 wrap down Tony Pena - with a double overhand knot holds better with less knot handling, faster tying time, and is more easily identified as drawing and cinching correctly.

Tie both of them and test them for yourself.

Someone showed me the Albright knot once and that thing just did not cut the butter. So I hooked up with Capt. James Nelson, a guide here in San Diego, and he showed me the uni-uni for joining braid to mono or carbon. I personally love the Double Uni better, it's strong, and easy to tie.
