Alright, taking a swing at building a bait tank. I enjoy building things, as I'm sure most of you do, too. Here's my progress so far. Let me know what you guys think.

(Sorry about how dark the first two are... My camera sucks.)

Alright guys, all finished! Stopped by OEX Sunset and Andy set me up with the plumbing and electrical this afternoon. I got everything finished from the previous stopping point (first post) in a few hours. Fun build. For anyone who enjoys a good project, this is for you.

Tested, and works good! Might take it out tomorrow. I'm feeling sick. *Cough*

Oh, I forgot to snap a few of the drain holes... They are drilled in the back and sides in the indentation in case someone wanted to know!

Thank you! I'm nowhere near a pro... But I'll take the compliment!

As for the price, it was about the same as buying it complete from Andy, a little less. If you shop around, I'm sure you could get a better price on an item here or there, but then you have to shop around. I'm a one-stop-shop kind of guy. Plus, you can't beat the customer service.

Since your inlet is on the top, you might want to add one of these near the bottom if you haven't done so already. I dump the 40# of bait tank water before landing.

As long as you still have juice in the battery at the end of the day, you can just throw the pump in the tank and disconnect the hose from the inlet to drain the tank. I think the technical term is reversebaitmosis.

I like those rivets with the plastic spreaders. Did you get those at OEX?

I agree with this 100% drain the water before trying to land or it could cause you to roll on the way in.

I'll have to do that. The yak was noticeably more top heavy w/the tank. Thank you!

Haha! I like it.

I believe it was $25

Thank you! The rivets came in an extra parts bag when I bought the yak (it was used). But, I am 98.6% sure I saw the same exact rivets in a rigging kit that OEX sells. I would imagine they'd have the rivets by themselves, too. They aren't 100% water proof though, so if you use them make sure to use some Goop, too.

Thanks! It's a 1060. It fits the extra wiring, switch, and battery like a glove.

So, I am pretty much going to try and copy you to a "T" since your tank setup is legit. Would you mind snapping a close up of your battery box wiring? Of the toggle switch? I have my parts coming in Thursday and really need every advantage since building things is no where near my specialty! Also, are you running a fuse?

Thank you!:cheers1:

Absolutely, let me go grab my camera and I'll snap a few more. No fuse for me, I figured, the less soldering I have to do, the less chance of a bad connection, failure, etc.

how much did it end up costing?

I don't have an exact number, but a little less than what Andy sells the tank for. Not by much. I bought everything at OEX that I didn't already have, minus the pet food container (Petco for $30 I believe).

Here's my parts list...

Petfood Container
1060 battery box
6v battery
Battery connectors of your choice
Extra wiring, depending on how long you make your inlet tube
Waterproof on/off switch
Clear tubing for inlet (I used 30" on mine)
PVC right angle inlet
Igloo Drain (if you want it, will be adding it to mine soon.)
360 gph pump
2 Handles
2 eyelets
Rod holder
Bungee for lid

Tools/Other things needed:

Soldering Iron
Measuring Tape
Goop
Shrink wrap
Zip ties
Plastic rivets (or screws, your choice)
Drill and drill bits
Rivet gun/screw driver, depending on what you use
Patience

I think that's all of it...

As promised..

Make sure you goop up every single hole you make! If I was to do this again, I would remember to drill through the rubber insert and thread all of the wiring first. I forgot to do it for the wires running to the pump, and had already soldered/heat shrunk everything through the plastic (minus the rubber), and didn't want to re-do all that work again.

Just remember, the switch lays on the hot line. The negative runs straight to the battery. Measure twice, cut once. And solder away!

Edit- Darth, if you wanted to run a fuse, put it between the switch and battery on the hot line. That way it will save everything if you have a short. I don't think you'll need one, but I'll let you make that call.

Awesome! Thank you very much for taking the time to snap those pics! I really do appreciate it.

The pics help clear up my questions. I think I will skip the fuse as well. As long as the powers of Goop are on my side I think I will be solid. Now I just have to make the trip to OEX to grab all the misc pieces.

Anytime! Anything to help a fellow yak'er. If you're ever a little more north, send me a PM. And if I'm ever down south, I'll let you know (if you'd be up for it, of course!) :cheers1:

Where do you live? I'd like to think that the other OEX sells them, too. Not a sure fact, but it'd make sense.

If you do not buy on line from OEX let me know. I will give you some info for your neck of the woods were you may find one. Gas is still high so freight is not bad.
