Got a call from a friend about this today. Very little info, but you can read what little there is on the Nor Cal kayak fishing forum.
All I could gather was it was a foggy morning, 1/2 mile off the beach and the kayak was a Revo.
Scary stuff for sure.

Glad the dude is ok. That is a heavy price to pay for chasing seabass.

I'm just happy I'm down in SoCal, the 'Disneyland' of kayak fishing.

It's weird that they call them "unprovoked" shark attacks.

Just what is a "provoked" shark attack? Telling a great white shark that he has bad breath?

Hobie, it's what's for dinner.

In California great white shark strikes on kayak anglers, the score stands Hobie 3, traditional paddle kayaks 2. Pedal drive 'yaks are much more common on the water these days. Draw your own conclusions - I can't. The sample size is thankfully small; the numbers too close to call.

Red and yellow account for 3 of the 5 incidents. The other two boats were off-white and blue. The dates range from May through November, with 2 of the strikes in July and a 3rd in August.

July 21,2007 - Dan at Bean Hollow, red Hobie Adventure

August 12, 2010 - Adam at Bean Hollow, yellow with black stripes Ocean Kayak Prowler

November 22, 2011 - Harry at Pigeon Point Lighthouse, ivory dune Hobie Outback

May 12, 2012 - Joey Nocchi, Leffingwell Landing, Cambria, blue Cobra Fish N Dive

July 7, 2012 - Mel at Capitola, yellow Hobie Revolution

2. Pigeon Point Lighthouse

3. Leffingwell Landing

4. Capitola

5. And oh yeah, Bean Hollow :D

I lived in San luis obispo for 4 year while going to cal poly. I fished leffingwell on numerous occasions and everytime I fishing there, I had always had that creepy JAWS like feeling. The central coast waters are cold, dark and creepy, but great fishing... <!-- / message -->

Meanwhile, in Cape Cod....

ORLEANS – A shark sighting off of Nauset Beach caused an evacuation of the water and closed the beach to swimming Saturday afternoon.
The sighting was reported just after 2 p.m., according to Orleans Harbormaster Dawson Farber. The great white shark is an estimated 12 to 14 feet long, he said.
“We had everyone exit the water,” Farber said.

Once his team confirmed the sighting by boat, they decided to keep the beach closed for swimming for the rest of the day.

Seeing how I have owned kayaks that had each of those colors, with exception to the ivory, does color really matter then? If it's your turn to get tossed by the tax man it's your turn. Hopefully he doesn't come back for a second bite. My guess is once they realize that they took a bite out of something plastic they will move on. Still, I hope I never have to find out.

Great whites, is the reason i carry a knife!

I might lose my leg... but I won't let the shark go away unharmed.
