power for lowrance elite-5

curious to know if running a 12v 5 amp will power this fish finder all day?

Look and see what the amp/hour rating is. A 6ah will run the Lowrance most of the day, a 12ah will run it for all day and into the night. I use this one and have not run this battery down even after 12+ hours on the water.

At this point, I wouldn't go without the 12ah. You can find them on eBay for less then $20.

I think I will get this, my 10 amphr only lasted 9 on the HDS5 this weekend

i could go another route to save on weight, ditch the live well? that right there could easily save me 15-20 pounds (water, live bait, 6v battery)...

How big is your bait tank? A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds.

5 gallon bucket with battery and everything that goes with it is closer to 45-50 pounds. A bait tube would be much less weight with a little more drag.

Typical current drain on the basic Elite 5 is .75a. So you are looking at about 6 hours on a fully charged, good, 5ah battery. The level of backlight can effect those numbers a good deal.

The 12ah battery I have is a little larger than the 7ah, wieghs about the same, but last for a very long time.

I had a 5AH 12V that would power my little humminbird for 3 trips before I would have to recharge. The larger units use up more energy, but I would not be surprised if the battery lasted longer than you might expect. Might test it on a full charge to see how long it will last before spending the dough on a heavier battery. Good luck.

I'd go with a 9 or 10 Ah battery if I were you, imo.
