I will be headed down to gonzaga bay area 2-17-07 for 2weeks just wanted to see if anybodys interested in going for part or all of the trip.

I may check out socorro on the way down. I could use some info on this area.

I will prob. stop at calamujue on the way to willard bay. And after willard bay a stop at El Faro.

I'll be taking the kayak and plan on doing lots of shore fishing as well.

Should be lots of fun.

Just got back last week....water temp dropped from 61 to 54 since Xmas which has slowed the bite.....there some calicoaround the kelp and still a chance WSB possible. Straight out from the ramp about a mile or so to 80ft. are nice size whitefish, vermillion, big bonies and a few yellowtail. Bait is easily made just off the kelp with a nice mix of greenies, spanish and sardines.....good luck.

Cuda Thanks for your reply. Thats some great info. When you write of nice sized white fish I can remember 10-15yrs ago fishin San Benito's island on a 5 day trip we were catch 8-12lb whitefish. They were so agressive they scared away the calico's that we were catching.. We were useing scampy's to catch them. The scampy's would barley fit in their mouths. The skipper Mike Lackey was pissed and left the spot. I was having a great time but he didn't think it was so cool. We were only catching 5-8lb calicos. He got pissed a few times on that trip. One of the main reason was there was 30lb. yellows just out of reach of all of our casting range through out the trip. So he would break out his jigstick cast, hook and hand to us lameo's.

It was after that trip I bought my first 9' jigstick and worked my ass off for years to be able to cast like that but never did. That man can toss a iron a loooong way.

Hell it may have be 20 yrs ago. I will be giving it a shot if the surf is not to big and the weather is decent. I don't want to break my neck again and be all alone.

I will give my report when I return. Damit I still have two more weeks to wait.

Check out www.stormsurf.com the Baja bouy forecast....I have launched in a 10ft swell but 8ft and under is safer. Watch for floating kelp islands on the way out to 80ft.....lots of stuff underneath.....got my biggest yellowtail on a dead mack so save 'em for back up.[/img]

WOW, so jealous. I wish I could get time off. Gonzaga Bay is one of the best spots for a huge variety of fish. Two years ago I was pushed around
in my kayak by a juvenile whale shark,20ft plus, and I can tell you it was the experiance of life time.
I hope the temp rises for you. I'm sure the fishing will be good.Good luck
