Every once in a while you begin your pull and your hoop net is noticeably heavier...there's a telltale thump, thump, thump with every pull. I was thinking this one's going to be a mambo bug...NOT. Wing tip to wing tip, this Bat Ray filled up my entire net.

Lets hear about how you got it out of the trap.

Haha, for sure. That last picture has the trap upside down (see bait box)...the stinger was outside of the net trying to stick me. It was one of those "please get out...please get out..."

Wow, how the heck did he even get in there in the first place, he is huge for that net.
I have probably pulled over 20 small rays in the last two weeks.

Jaws, why rip off that young scab? I dropped my first (4) traps last night, looked back right before I let the last one go and wtf...and they're all gone. Sunk out. The 5.5' tide grabbed my med sized floats and poof, gonzo...I ended up finding two and losing two. Stayed out late hoping they'd pop back up but no such luck...put (4) keeps in the bag.

okaaaaayyy then.......I guess Iwasn't missing too much by not going last night.....
Making me really re-think going out tonight.....
Think I may wait til next weekend for the tidal flow to slow down a bit.

That tidal flow shouldn't be a prob for those with the normal floats scoping out plenty of rope. I paid for my lack of experience. I like the string of sm/med floats because they stack on top of each other in the back better for me.
The schedule's tight this week but I'm usually game. I pm'd you last week but got no response...Jim

isnt he cute?!
best way is to turn the net sideways, reach in and stick two fingers in its mouth, get a lock on it upper jaw and just pull it out. they slide right out and glide away.

Tell that to Steve Irwin....
he was killed by a sting ray, not a bat ray.
sting rays have much larger and often multiple stingers to hit you with.

yes! actually you can.... i was told a when i started fishing that they are much like..... cheap scallop... i dont know about that... but i caught one, took it home, took off it's wings, and the lady's parents made soup..... they loved it! personal preference though... i ate a piece, didnt bother me any, but not my favorite.
