I am new to this as well and found that you can make rod and paddle leashes cheap and they function way better than what shops are selling. Check out the general kayak discussion for some info. Check REI or similar shop for basic rope and connectors. PM me if you need more info.
I have a paddle if you are still looking for one - I know it is not carbon fiber. Let me know if still interested. I'll need to look at model and what it is made out of.

I have gotten outfitted by BWE members and you couldn't ask for a better group to do business with; they are knowledgeable and spend lot's of time on the water. I probably have way more gear than I will ever use, but that is kinda my problem anyway.
Good Luck and enjoy the ride,
Dwayne

Thanks for info. I got fiberglass paddles and pfd from bass pro with gift card last week and new cart from CL for $40. PMd guy on the radio to see how close it is to Temecula. Those seats look good, but going to wait till after Christmas to see how much $$ I got. Still waiting to take yak out on maiden voyage, but between weather and work...you know the story....Thanks again.
