How many of you guys use VHF radios when out on the water? What brand do you have/recommend?

I carry my old humminbird VHF all the time - it is only 4 watts (only good for line of sight communication), does not float and is not waterproof.
Later this month I'll be upgrading to an Icom M36. It has a 6 watt output (the highest wattage a handheld typically has - it's most important feature in my book) and it has a waterproof IPX7 rating - rated for 30 minutes submerged to 1 meter, which is good for when I take the occasional swim in the surf getting back in, and it floats should it ever become separated from my pfd.

I never hit the water without my radio, or cell phone. Here's the radio I currently have and it works great

I had this one until I dropped it in the bay at the bait barge. Great radio.

Make sure that what ever you get to attach it to you so you don't lose it.

Thanks guys. I was looking at the new ICOM 92 or the Standard Horizon HX851. I know West Marine will do a price match and I found a deal online. I got a trolling motor for my birthday that I returned and I have money left over now for a new seat and a VHF. Thanks guys for the response.

But do you think one of those models is overkill? I know it could be used in other situations so it seems like a pretty viable justification for getting the best.
