So, is there any consensus on a quality, comfortable PFD that works better than most on kayaks. Specifically one that would be worn by a paddler?

The NRS Chinook is my favorite and the one I use.

Yeah. Mine makes me look like a turtle. I know you guys don't care about looks, but chicks make fashion statements!

I'm a fan of the Stohlquist Fisherman PFD. I've heard some good things about the NRS Chinook and will probably give it a try for my next vest.

From a paddler's perspective, look at Kokatat's Bahia Tour. Highest quality outer shell for durability, good fit, a high back that works well with sit-on-top seats, low profile in front (no bulky pockets to get in the way if you have to climb back on).
I also like the Extrasport Pro Caster. The only thing fishy about it is the name. This is really a rebranded no-nonsense high performance paddling PFD. Excellent fit.
And one more vote for the Stohlquist Fisherman, a little bit of the best of both worlds. When the storage pockets are closed, it's clean and sleek. High quality too.
