Ratdog got me looking into the topographical map of the La Jolla canyon…

Pics are from USGS web site - http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/pacmaps/sd-index.html (http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/pacmaps/sd-index.html)
They have a search engine for their resources/publications, but I haven’t had much luck digging something out… http://ngmdb.usgs.gov/ (http://ngmdb.usgs.gov/) … I’m getting intimidated with all the English words unknown to me (geochronology, paleontology :o )
Please share if you have any cool info.

Geochronology=the science of determining the absolute age of rocks, fossils and sediments. Not to be confused with biostratigraphy, which is the science of assigning sedimentary rocks to a known geological period via describing, cataloguing and comparing fossil floral and faunal assemblages. Geochronology is the prime tool used in the discipline of chronostratigraphy, which attempts to derive absolute age dates for all fossil assemblages and determine the geologic history of the Earth and extraterrestrial bodies.
Is that clear?
Those Latin-based scientific names can be tough. Take this one:

Great pics Adi. Does anyone know approx. distance between point A& B in first picture and what the water depth is at the bottom of canyon between A&B. Just curious.

PALEontology is the science that seeks to determine why so many west coast fisherman like over hopped pale ales. It is one of the great mysteries of our time.

Real men, and hard core fisherman use beer as a chaser. The rest are just wimps. Other then as a chaser beer can be used as a mouth wash in the morning after a night of real drinking. :)

Wicked stuff, found this link there......
http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/pacmaps/sd-fly.html
It is movies of flyby's in the canyons. I had visions of dropping a line down these canyons but after looking at them I don't believe there's a reel that can handle the volume or the yak that could carry a fully loaded reel. ;)
I'd love to know what is down there.
