Nelz, that fish could eat your wave runner for breakfast!!! If ya gotta dream that's a good one. I'd want it on the surface iron.

i love the shot of the little 25# YT under his feet..
like, "oh yeah, don't forget to put that little one down the RSW"

that guy is ruined for life... nothing will ever compare to that beast!
i'd love to just see one of that magnitude in person..

40lb, that's pretty impressive. I've heard stories of those brutes getting into the rocks on 80lb with locked two speeds. I think guadalupe island is one place I'd opt for the big boat over the kayak... with the exception of south africa and the farallons....

That is the kind yellowtail. I have been to Alijos Rocks and fished the big tails. You fish a 50SW with 80 or 100lb and a locked drag. When you get bit you hang on and keep turning the handle in high gear and when you can not turn it any more you go to low gear and try to keep winding. I never got a fish over 30 or so there but I did watch a guys get broke off with that same set up. As far as big tail fishing is concerned Alijos is the place. The biggest yellowtail I have landed was 42 pounds on a 6480 with a 4/0YT and 40 pound line on a surface iron at Cedros, it was a brute and I was lucky to land it.

The abrjos reefs are good fishing, especially if you want to get into the big bsb 300 lbs+ or the grouper pushing 200, but I understand and have had many people tell me that the place for big yellowtail, pushing 80lbs+ is san fransquito, south of bahia de animas or the better know bay of l.a. I might be making the trip before this seasons over and have one to show for it :)
