Hello I'm Nick and this is my 1st post to this board. My brother and I just got a 13.5' Perception Tribe two-man kayak and we're about to start outfitting it for freshwater trout and bass fishing.

I'm thinking we should start with mounting oar and rod holders, then focusing on gear storage and so forth. We're a bit away from plans for a live-bait tank and fish finder so we're mostly focusing on getting it basically set up.

I was looking at these earlier: http://kayakfishinggear.com/paddleclips-outofstock-morecomingsoon.aspx and wondering if anyone had any feedback on them. Can you just screw the mounts on as is? Do you have to seal the screws or mounts afterward? I'm thinking a Kayak Konsole would be a good idea as well since you can mount pole holders on it. Looks like Kayakfishinggear.com has a lot of this stuff as well but we were hoping to fabricate some components as well to keep costs down.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide as we take the plunge in kayak fishing!

Nick.

Welcome to the madness. If you need yak stuff check out the online store or www.kayakfishingsupplies.com (http://www.kayakfishingsupplies.com) Support the guys that make this kayak forum possible. Best thing I can tell you that if your going to start rigging get a bunch of leashes for your gear (paddle especially) If your in the area, Andy @ OEX Sunset Beach (ICEMAN) is the guy to talk to. Try the search feature and the "share your innovations" thread. Theres enough information and yak porn on this sight to keep you busy for days.

Safety first, PFD, Bildge pump, whistle, compass, knife... stuff like that.

Thanks man! Appreciate the guidance. I think I'm going to start by digging around the innovation thread for ideas.

Nick.

if it CAN break it WILL.

Think flush mount or very durable. No matter how much you baby your yak, they can go through a lot of abuse on the water and things fail at the worst possible moment.

Waterproof means that it takes a little longer before it fails.

Welcome to the mad house.:D

I love that line. Waterproof means it takes longer to fail. He's speaking the trooth. If you don't want to lose it, strap it down, if you don't want it getting wet, put it in a water tight case. As others have said, welcome to the addiction and have fun, but also be safe and always wear a PFD.
