Dose anyone actually use the internal horizontal rod holders? I understand their functionality for freshwater, but for saltwater applications it seems like their kind of worthless. I thinking about removing them entirely and freeing up some space in the bow hatch. Also looking for some suggestions in covering up the cut outs the tubes go through! Thanks.

Yup, I use them when launching and landing in the surf.
Once out on the water, all rods go vertical in the rod holders, both the molded in the hull and in the livewell too.
Used them today even.

I use mine every time I go out. It frees up the area behind me for gaff and net I think. As well I have my 2 halibut rigs one on each side bass rig and bait rig all next to me so I don't have to turn around except to golfer live bait.

Its all I use in mine - nothing goes vertical. So far it works for me...

If the waves get BIG...
I them use for rods when landing in heavy surf and put my reels in a drybag...
you are not going to gain that much room in the front hatch...and if you do add more weight in the front your PA will pearl and do a NOSEDIVE...on the return trip...:kayak-surfer::kayak-surfer:

Ok, that's overwhelming evidence to support their continued existence on my ride. Heck, I might even start to use them now! Thanks everyone for the input!

I use them every launch and landing too. I don't take rods out until I'm ready to use them either. It's nice to have the rods I'm not using on the side for when a fish decides to run around the back of the boat.

The biggest advantage I've found however, is that I never take my rods out. I land with them stored, load my kayak with them stored, clean my kayak with them stored and store my kayak with the rods stored. Then, I wake up, load my kayak with the rods stored, unload with them stored and then launch with them stored. See how that worked out =)

It takes me less than 10 minutes to get to the launch, unload, park my car and get on the water.

I think once you start using them you will ask yourself why you didn't start sooner.

I use them launching, fishing and landing. When I am fishing I keep the unused ones there so they don't get in the way if I hook a skitzo thresher, or am using light lines and hook a larger model fish.
