I'm going up there for a wedding mid-April. After finding out that it's on central coast, I got a little excited about maybe taking my yak up there.
Anyone have any experience kayak fishing up there?
I'd like to get as much info as possible since I've never been and I'll basically only have half a day to fish.
Some quick research shows a nice beach to launch from north of the pier. Looks like there some kelp beds north of that area. thanks!

Go to Ruddell's Smoke House. That would be first on my list...:drool5:

I can't help you much with the kayak fishing, but when I was there the area just north of the beach looked awesome with lots of structure to fish...

Then go to Ruddell's. Smoked albacore taco. Thank me later :cheers1:

Dude that smokehouse shack looks awesome! :you_rock:
But... I just saw this
Central Management Area: 37°11 N. Latitude (Pigeon Point in San Mateo County) to 34°27 N. Latitude (Point Conception, Santa Barbara County)
The recreational fishery for rockfish (Sebastes sp.) is open year-round to divers and shore-based anglers. The fishery is closed to boat-based anglers as of January 1, 2013 and is scheduled to reopen on May 1, 2013

I guess I'm fishing from shore or the pier! :(
Unless there's some other option I don't know about.

Go 10 minutes south to morro bay and fish out by the big rock and a little north for halibut.

Aside from halibut, what should I be targeting?

Bass? When I was in Morro bay last summer I just surf fished. Good luck man
And bring warm clothes. The summer water there is colder than our winter water.. brrrr
