I'm replacing the switch, pump and all connections.
The confusion:
Hobie has the existing Tsunami 500 pump wired as follows:
Brown wire as positive, ran direct to positive terminal on battery.
Black wire to switch, from switch to negative terminal.

The directions included with the new Tsunami pump say to use the brown as positive...run from pump to switch, from switch to positive battery terminal....use the black as ground, run from pump directly to negative terminal on battery.

Which way should I make my connections?

In most applications it doesn't really matter. For salt water applications it's better to have the switch off the positive to minimize corrosion. The fewer components you have at zero relative to the negative terminal the better.

Yeah but don't you always want to keep your ground circuit open? Am i open to potential problems with a closed ground? All the switch does is open and close whichever terminal it's inline with right?

I can't think of a reason to do it one way or the other than the reason I mentioned.
