Have a 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback that I will be carrying my hobie outback on. Hopefully, I will be getting a used Mazda roof rack. Would like to know how everyone is attaching bow and stern tie down straps to vehicle. Also wondering if straps are damaging paint surface on vehicle. Any easy ways to get my hobie onto the racks. Thanks

Here's how I use to do it. On this car, the back area of the roof is what you really need to pay attention to. Use a nice mat or towel to cover the area when loading/unloading. Thule makes a great mat for this purpose. Never had any issues with the paint but if you're concerned maybe try something to buffer in between (microfiber towel?)

This would probably help with your bow/stern lines. 2 options, 1 screws in other closes in the hook (or hatch). We stock both at OEX.

Thanks for the pic of your mazda setup. Do you remember where you connected the tie down straps to your car? Did you feel the kayak was secure at higher speeds......65mph? Thanks for the input.

Interesting accessories. Wondering if my hood & trunk can handle the strap that goes under them.

Shouldnt be a problem using these. Never seen an issue on all the cars we have racked.

I used the tow hook in the rear and in the front to a piece connected to the engine compartment behind the grill. I could do 75 with no problem.
