Just wondering how much you guys spend for a day of kayak fishing.

$Free.99

I don't know where you're fishing but if you're fishing a bay, at least in SD and Mission Bay, you can park and launch for free and make bait. If you want to buy bait, a scoop is something like $10

That all depends on where you fish.

As an example
Cabrillo
45miles round trip
Fish the inside
$9 parking
$13-$15 for bait
$10 lunch
Cabrillo fishing the outside
Free parking
$5.99 for a box of squid
$10 lunch

La Jolla
12-15 hour day
180miles round trip
$40-$70 for gas
Free parking
$10 lunch

I live close to south sd bay so 1/2 gallon of gas or less, no bait or catch my own, $1.50 costco hotdog on the way home. Super low budget. LJ gets more expensive gas wise but the other outlays stay the same. My baja trips are mostly the cost of fuel, then food, and $5-10 or free a night to camp. Mike

Typical trip to the sewer....Lets see...20-25 bucks for gas, 10 for parking, 5 for coffee and soda/monsters, 15 for bait, 20 for busybee sandwiches....70-75 bucks give or take...wow:eek:

Thats not including tackle...its definitely not cheap... But 100% worth it!....sometimes...

for those who don't know Tony......he's not kidding when he says $20 for busybee sandwiches. Personally, I think he's being a little conservative with that number.

Also hope gas goes down. It cost to much for me to go to La Jolla lately, 202 miles round trip at 13mpg is a lot not even counting food and ect. Been staying around OC to LA lately, a lot closer about a $40 in gas difference.

That's the beauty of Kayak fishing. 1/2 gallon of gas to get to the launches = $2
If bait is desired for fishing $10 most of the time I catch my own, or use plastics.

No parking fees in San Diego locations.

Maybe food after, I'm guessing at the most $20 but not usually. Being invited out on a buddies boat costs me $40 or more easily. Then I have to fish where they want to fish. Not always fun.

i usually end up paying at least 20.00 or so between bait, hooks, sinkers and maybe a few new jigs. new jigs and tackle is what really kills me. that stuff adds up quick, VERY quick

Live close to the launch, so roundtrip in diesel is maybe $2.
Coffee at home.
Water bottle filled at home.
I buy frozen squid at Ranch 99. Last buy was 5 lbs. for $7.29
I'm no marathon angler, so I'm off the water in time to have lunch at home.
My biggest cost would be losing an iron...$10. Flouro and hooks over time.
Maybe those scopolamine patches so I don't puke in my lap. Those patches retail for close to $15 each. I get them for about $8. My brother is a school teacher with a great prescription plan...gets them for $1. Thanks bro! :)

$525 Slip fee
$75.00 Cleaning
$751.75 For 155 gal of fuel @$4.85
$35.00 Fuel to get to the boat -Rancho Cucamonga to HB

$10.00 Tackle - pretty standard
$25 Meals and Beer

= $1421.75 Per month OR

approx. $355.00 Per trip if fishing 1x per week

Damn, I miss my Kayak! If anyone is fishing off Cabrillo Beach tomorrow, look for the boat Barely-A-Wake. I'll have a couple cold ones on board and/or Capt. Morgan/Coke if you prefer.

Gas to DP = 25
Bait = 10

The way I figure it is I would be spending the money for gas to go fishing no matter what I was in, so in my figuring I don't count that, much.

I bring my own coffee, water and snacks. Plus the usual tackle losses over time, but again, that would be there anyway.

The OLD days:

Car wash $15

Flowers $20

Movie $20

Dinner $80

Maybe get lucky at the end of a date $ 0

TODAY

Fishing $30 to $40 bucks a day.

The way I figure it out, fishing is SAVING me about about $ 100 a week.

At this rate I will save enough in a couple of weeks to buy a new reel.:D:D:D

Ohhhh, one more thing. I probably get "LUCKY" fishing more often than I did before fishing.

I don't know what it cost me, but it saves me frm sitting in front of the T.V getting fat, having a heart attack, and being bored and angry because there is no excitement in life.

After reading the posts above I think I'll have to get another job so I can kayak fish more. I didn't realize all the costs involved.;)
