So I got my rudder replaced today. Had to replace the entire up/down lines and had no idea what I was doing, but seems to be working fine now.

Question..: on the bottom of the rudder where the down line secures is a wire. What is this for? To stick into the rudder piece? Held in by a screw, not sure what it is supposed to do.

Anyone? Talking about the little metal paperclip like piece that sticks out. The instructions don't cover it, not sure if it's necessary. Is the bottom of the rudder shaft supposed to clip into this piece? If so does it affect how the rudder raises and lowers?

Thanks.

I have the same older style hobie rudder and don't have a paper clip piece there of any kind that I can remember. Just the screw.

Thanks. Maybe will try taking it off. If I clip the rudder to it, the rudder won't raise. Just seems to get in the way.

My only suggestion is that you post this question on the Hobie website. You'll get a factory rep's reply. Go http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=53
