Launched at 6am with Landwhale from Cherry Beach. It was cold with a brisk south wind and lots of clouds. Water ranged between 61º and 63º and was pretty clean looking. Got out to the island and started fishing. Almost right away I broke off a drag pulling mystery fish and then had another pop off the hook. The rest of the day was a very slow pick.

1 mini rockfish, 1 big sculpin, 1 medium lizard, 1 legal sandy and then 2 shorts. Could never find one consistently working bait or color. Fished the slip jig, 4" Swing, and 4" Flurry. All with Hot Sauce.

Weather warmed and cleared as the morning wore on, but never got warm. But, it was a fun day and after 3 months off the water it was just nice to be fishing again.

well, welcome back. When are you going to do the regular dana reports?

I'm trying to ID some rock fish spots for either Weds or Thurs in the DP area. I have an idea, but I'm open to more input.

Anyone have any info/ideas to share?

I know where Cherry Beach is, but haven't heard of White Island. What, and where is that?<label for="rb_iconid_5">http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/images/icons/icon5.gif</label>

White Island is the most closest to Belmont Pier than two other islands...

Thanks, I'm hoping to hit Dana next week. No ideas on rockfish as I've only fished them once in my life, about 30yrs ago.

White is the closest oil island to Cherry. It's a short walk across the sand and a relatively short paddle so you can get a lot of fishing in in a short amount of time. We were off the water at 10:30 yesterday, and it still felt like a good amount of time fishing.

I really like fishing that stretch, I have caught some decent halis in there.

Yep, lots of butts around there. Baytubers used to do (and might still) a lot of halibut tourneys off of Cherry.
