When I referenced the second subset of tidal data I noticed that it just was not right. If you add the negative tide and the wind coming from the west/east direction I don't think you will have any water flow.

I would wait for a better day conditions wise. No reason to do that place on such a difficult day.

If you do go out, good luck.

I can assure you that you WILL NOT follow that path and your 8.47 mile trek will be something closer to 10miles (+/- 5miles). As soon as you get past Pier 400 you will see so much open water and its likely that you will want to fish it all. Another thing to consider is the fact that windfinder is correct about 1% of the time, the tides are usually accurate but the winds are always off by 5kts or so (+/- 10kts). Don't trust the wind reports, the winds can change without notice and if you're not prepared you'll be calling the USCG for help.

Ok this can wait for another time guess i wont be doing it Thursday. And Matt, what do you mean about no water movement? Will this effect just fishing inside the harbor too? I guess ill be wanting to fish the whole place around once i see all the open space, it wont stop with just one pass through. We got to schedule one of these though that really would be a great halibut trip.

Matt, Matt, Matt...don't be so...negative:

"negative tide and the wind coming from the west/east direction I don't think you will have any water flow."

When you're lucky enough to have found such a situation, drop in the side scanning, sonar image high def thingy (ask Ful-rac) and hover over a very large halibut. Keep dropping everything (including the kitchen sink) until that puppy has been caught...duh.

I knew everyone could tell that the conditions were horrible based on those charts. I did some more research and discovered that some of the water contains salts and many boulders in the break wall are granite! Granite people!

We all know you can't catch fish in those conditions. I'm sure the situation will improve soon. Until then stay home and rewire a bait tank or sumtin.

Would you guys really be down to do this if weather permits?

Yeah, this may be a fun one way trip. The winds would usually push you in the right direction. It's just a matter of arranging car shuttles.

Get it organized.:D

We can unload the kayaks at cabrilo and have someone stay there then go park the cars at the drop off point and have one or two cars go back to cabrillo and start the trek down. How about we do this in May?

I think you should really reconsider your route, crossing LB harbor might not be the best place to try a Paddle fest, when is Memorial day again? There was some talk of Dana Point to San clem maybe dig up that thread, or try a Cherry or Seal beach to Bolsa. Im all for long distance fishing and have done the two oil platforms off of dog beach in HB but that took lots of planning and we had a support boat in hunting Harbor come get us when we were half way in, we probably did close to 14 miles for some sandbass and cuda! :banghead:

Would there be too much boat traffic in the harbor? That dana to clemente trip is on another forum they did 11 miles on that trip. Or we can do another ultimate halibut trip around the oil islands. Maybe a trip around PV?

I'm still planning to do this trip. It was put on hold on my end since the wife finally decided to sell the house and move. Living with the mother in-law now and my kayak is in storage till we move into the new house.

Yes as the weather warms up there will be more boat traffic, Memorial Day is at the end of May so that's really one of the best weekends to avoid. "Around PV" how about out to PV and back. I was out this am launched at 4 went about 4 miles before the tide change and turned around, by the time I hit fermin the wind was blowing so steady and strong the I took out the mirage drive, flipped up the rudder and drifted all the way back in. I think before you jump into a 10 mile trip you should to a little more planning, and start from two beaches that are closer together with a little better access then the ports of LA and LB. Plan it out post it up re-plan agree and go for it.
and no there were no fish awake today in Cabrillo before 9am.

How about something mid may from the 9th to 19th? That dana trip sounds good, is it possible to land a thresher trolling from there in mid may? Ill come up with a map of a couple trips thennpost it up and we'll all pick a trip.
