Metal jigs?

I have seen many people with large fish caught off those metal tuna jigs, I was wondering the best method/ strategy for fishing those things. Thanks.

Just tie a knot to it. Not really too much to it. There's surface iron and yo-yos just depends the way u wanna fish. Yo-yos mostly for the fishes in deeper water!

My pole is already spooled up with 30 # test, is that going to be enough for yellows and some of the other big game out there? Thanks again!

I have mine with 65# spectra and a top shot of 20 yards 30# pline just adjust ur drag

You mention metal Tuna jigs, but the traditional Japanese knife jigs are even more deadly in certain applications. Namely metering concentric "gettin' worked" balls in the lower water column. You need to instantly drop a Butterfly jig and get down to business. The hydrodynamics of the Knife jig speed drops faster than the descent rate of a Yo-Yo style iron. There are many types of metal jigs out there for many different species and applications. :jig:

I make my own jigs out of handles of solid tableware butter knives.

You can catch a 200# Thresher on twenty pound test of you want, but properly arming yourself with at least a 120 yard topshot of 65# green spectra you will soon find standard on most guys set ups around town targeting Pelagics close to the kelp..

Hopefully yo-yo time is ending and surface iron time is coming. Yo-yo is effective on many species because you can cover the whole water column but to me it's about as fun and interesting as digging a hole. Surface iron fishing is the funnest and most exciting fishing style I have done.

Lots of irons and plenty of techniques out there. Do some research and give them a try. Mike
