Wow...a new lesson learned...

Gaffed it, put it on the game clip, clubbed it 5 times, nicked a few gills, stabbed its brain a half dozen times then hung him over the side...sumbitch woke up pissed after a few minutes and took my cleat and game clip with him.

Halibut require bonking 15 times...

They calm down pretty well once their gills are ripped out.

It sucks to lose stuff, but that way, ouch!

Jim, you will find any excuse to do some "bonking".

That one was small anyways, you are looking for a toad anyways.:)

Lesson learned: don't take advice about halibut fishing from Ful-rac....

Tough one Jim. I always use a secondary line tied right to my brass seat clip. Halibut seem to be like Catfish, you can bleed them and then stick them in your lap/hatch and a half hour later they go nuts.

.45 to the head usually works. 2 to make sure. Over the water is preferred.

Jim, you will find any excuse to do some "bonking".

My Great Uncle Wyanski warned me about the Poles who were learning English using a condensed version dictionary...I just found one...:the_finger:
Don't ever knock "bonking" a fish until you've tried it one time...:paddleersmilie:

Bummer Deamon,
bleed em, rip their gills out, beat them with a club...
it doesn't matter, certain Halibut will just wake up and go flipping nuts no matter what!

Greg is right
2 clips or rope or whatever securely fastened to the kayak is your only chance, and even then... chit happens

"you got FulRacked"
now that's funny!

I learned along time ago if your going to rip the gills snap the neck spine while your at it. :the_finger: That'll stop him from thrashing any further!:D

btw: losing a game clip with the cleat really sucks. :(

You no hear about SEALIONS? They will flip you over for a nice halibut!

How many fish you hang in the ocean? Really? I'm curious. I would think you would get mugged by the dogs.

Sorry bout your clip.

I think that hanging a fish over the side is a pretty common thing. If I do see active dogs, I might pull the meat on deck for a while.:)

Frugal...

LJ's Sea Lions don't mess with ANY Blue Hobie Revolutions...its one reason so many that color are purchased...you all can thank me for that...:the_finger:

Reasons to hang fish:
get hot fish off of your expensive gear and FF (Tony's/Fulrac recommendation)
clear gear, wash off blood, re-rig, drop back down for #2
Take photo :D (this is where I was at in the process)
Drain kidneys...I know some who pee on their fish and then invite their friends over for "fresh" brined sashimi...

Oh the excitement of halibut fishing. That sucks and it sounds like you did plenty to put an end to that fish. I put a "dead" halibut in the hatch of my extreme and then had then it go ape shit. Thought the damn thing as going to beat a hole in the yak or blast the hatch off. Thankfully it did neither but there was no way in hell I was opening that hatch until banging was over. Next
