Been thinking about taking the yak to catalina island. The fam wants to go somewhere for my 21st bday and catalina island came to mind to me. Hows the fishing up there in august? Can I take a car with the yak on the ferry? Which side of the island is better for fishing?

Do they allow personal cars? I was told it was a 10 year wait to get one on the island.

A buddy told me one of the fairy allowed kayaks for an additional fee but as a plan B you could rent one on the island.

You can not take a car to Catalina.
There used to be a ferry that would take your yak, I believe that they are out of bus iness.
I do not believe that the other ferry lines offer the yak option.
There is a freight shipping line that will deliver a yak for you. This seems like a major pain in the butt.
You can rent kayaks there. This appears to be the easiest idea.
Have fun out there, post up.

You could always paddle/peddle there.

I was thinking about that, but I dont think my family would want to do that haha. How far is the trip by paddle/peddle?

no way to take a car that I am aware of. Catalina Express does not allow kayaks.

Long story short, taking a kayak to the island is impractical. <O:p</O:p

An eight hour (full day) rental is only $50.00. Just take your gear and leashes, etc. The rental place has couple of fishing kayaks with rod holders. Maybe you can call and reserve them.

Do you know about the “free round trip on your birthday” deal on Catalina Express?

You can PM me for more information about fishing in Catalina. I can also post here if there is an interest.

Just in case you are looking for a cheaper way to get there, I see they have the 1/2 price ($35) tickets for the Catalina Express on Goupon.

Thanks for the tip about free Birthday travel, (Here's the link to anyone that wanted it, http://www.catalinaexpress.com/birthday_promo.php)
I could have sworn Catalina flyer used to let kayaks on under 14ft. maybe they changed it because it was too much hassle.

I think the Flyer is out of order for a while. I can't say about their kayak policy. I have always taken the Catalina Express.
As to fishing in Catalina, I have fished the Two Harbors twice, but close to 20 times I have been to Avalon.
If you have specific questions, send me a PM, or post it here and I will try to answer them.
