Today, I finally mustard up the courage to dip my kayak in salt water. I figured the safest and closest place for me to learn was in Alamitos Bay. The learning curve began, but I'm still a kayak angler virgin... NO FISH. I honestly do not know what I am doing and would appreciate help that can put me on fish from any of you fine gentlemen or women. I have a Malibu Stealth 14 with a 7' Sabre Lite rod+Sealine-X20shv (15 lb mono) and a 7' Ugly Stik InterCoastal+Shimano 3500 Baitrunner (10 lb mono). All advice is appreciated! :reel:

I started off fishing near where I would shore fish using the same rigs and same baits/lures. Caught a few fish, just like shore fishing but from my yak. Then I headed out into the kelp and caught a few fish I couldn't reach from shore.
Today I just bought a Tady 45 surface iron and thinking about that yellowtail I'm gonna get someday :D
I've been out about 7 or 8 times and just learn as I go. Read the forums, watch some youtube videos, ask questions, and spend time on the water. Hopefully once in a while we'll find someone on the water willing to have us as tag-alongs and we can straighten out our learning curves a bit.

I have been out three times. Twice in Redondo Harbor and once in Newport Harbor.
One lonely sardine for three trips. At least my maiden outing was not a skunk.
Even though the fishing was slow I enjoyed the sightseeing and the workout.
Someday I plan to kayak in Catalina. We'll see how that will pan out.

10 must be the magic number. Took me 10 trips a month for 10 months to get my first :wsb:
