Flipped the coin and decided to hit Dana Point instead of La Jolla this morning. Think I made a tactical error. DP was nothing but lizard fish and short bass.

Best part of the day was testing out the new Kayak and playing with the Dolphins.

If I find out the La Jolla was rocking today I may just kill myself.

Could be worse. I flipped the coin and hit Dana today for the afternoon shift. Good day to fly a kite or go wind surfing. Lumpy with very mixed swell.

At this point, even catching a lizard fish sounds fun

Thx for the report :cheers1:

I would say you made the right call, at least if you hate fishing in the wind like I do.
I went out yesterday with my friend Rod and we saw one fish landed on a PB but no others before hanging it up. It was sloppy out there.

It still amazes me that out of the hundreds of kayak fishing trips I have only caught 1 lizard fish...

you aren't trying hard enough on those lizard fish. Seems they like my sibiki.

I ventured out yesterday too. Nice meeting you CK. I had bigger expectations. I flipped a coin and went south instead of north. Most of the activity was just outside of Doheny beach: 1 baby wsb, 1 spot fin croaker, & 1 sand bass. 1 shark hook-up and fail (forgot to set the clicker and almost got spooled) not paying attention.

In the harbor a 16 inch halibut to finish the day.

Water was warm, wind was constant and sea was rough but not too bad.

Rode the washboard bumps at DP last week and lucked out w/ a 12lb hali caught on sardine (1st in 2+ months!). I examined the stomach contents and found a partially digested LIZARD FISH! Got me thinking that I better save the LF that I sabiki and send them back down on my hook.

Anything that prolific has to be eaten by a LOT of things!

Only problem with using them as bait is that they might try and attack the fish that you're trying to catch! I dropped a big iron the other day and came up with a lizard fish that was just slightly bigger than the iron. They are ambitious little buggers I'll give them credit for that!

The one lizard I caught actually hooked himself trying to eat the sand dab I was catching lol Those sand dabs are so tasty! :drool5:

i dunno, i never had much luck sending lizardfish back down to the bottom. i don't think other fish find them as appealing as other baits

My first trip to SD bay I caught one and after reading somewhere they were good for halibut bait, I hooked it up and sent it down. after a short time the rod slowly bends over, thinking I'm hooked on the bottom I give it a yank, it yanked back. Towed me for a little bit then busted the line (this was before I migrated to braid).
