After hearing several times from people renting that they had seen an otter in the channel, I finally saw it last week and paddled out to get a photo. It kept diving under and popping up 50 yards away so I gave up. It was MIA for a few days and resurfaced this afternoon. From the launch I watched as people paddled right by it snapping pictures. I paddled out on a SUP and let the wind drift me within a couple feet of it. A neighbor said he has never seen an otter in the harbor in the 50 years he has been here. He is a fatty!

That's pretty awesome! Where do those breed around here? It'd be a neat permanent resident, should it decide to stay local.

I thought that was an Otter when I last fished the Harbor.... Glad I'm not going bonkers....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's pretty far south of it's northern habitat...

First it's a wayward porpoise getting into the Bolsa Chica Reserve, now this...

It's a funny year for the Huntington Harbor, but in a interesting way.

They used to up and down the coast. The state has decided to let them let them go anywhere they want. They used to try to keep them from a certain point and northward. It was supposed to keep the Abalone industry safe from them I think. They are another part of the kelp ecosystem just trying to get along and oh so cool while doing it.

I just hope this doesn't make the eco-mentalists to try and stop us from fishing there.

Keeper Otters are a minimum if 36"

There really cool when they decide they want to sun bath on your yak. My cousin up in Monterrey had that happen to him.
