Does a fishing kayak really make that big of a difference?

I am trying to decide on whether or not I get a fishing kayak or just get a regular kayak. I feel like most fishing kayaks I look for are a little more expensive than regular flat water kayaks. I think I could rig up the attachments I need for my fishing gear etc... but I wanted yalls opinion on whether or not I should buy a real fishing kayak or just get a regular one and modify it myself. I started fishing on a Malibu X-13 and it worked ok. I fish on a Jackson Cuda 14 now and I am genuinely impressed with this boat. The best thing, it's 100% US made. your best bet would be to go to OEX and pick their brains as to which kayak is best for you.

Some fishing kayaks seem to be designed for more stability than recreation kayaks, and the deck layout on some are better suited to carrying extra gear you'd be taking while fishing. Plus, some come with pre-installed rod holders and areas to mount your transducer.

Also, I'm not sure how useful a "flat water" kayak would be once you start heading out of the bays.

The X-Factor you are looking at is good for fishing.

Anythings possible. Last year my friend Aaron bagged a yt on a 6 ft rental piece of garbage. It was halfway in the water the whole fight!

Take a couple out to paddle and compare (advise that was given to me). :)
The fishing models usually come pre-equipped with rod holders (2 to 4) and built wider for primary and secondary stability. Some others like the OK Trident series have a center hatch (called the Rod Pod) you can access the interior of the kayak to hold rods during surf launches and a compartment for a fish finder and the lid acts like a sun shade to minimize glare.
