He was trying to steal my bait.

Don't give me any crap about stiff arming....
http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegallery/data/500/YT_Cropped.JPG

It went 50.2 lbs at OEX, I shouldn't have bled it on the water but I was estimating/hoping for 40lbs out there.
http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegallery/data/500/scale.JPG

I launched at 7:00am, planned to troll a rapala out to deeper water and then work the irons and knife jigs. I dropped a dorado colored cd-14 about a 1/4 mile after the buoys and then got hit 2 minutes later. Ripped line like crazy on a brand new TLD-15 with 50# dark green power pro braid tied directly to the rapala. My gps showed he was towing me about 4 mph for several minutes, then started an up and down fight. It could hold it's depth so well that I was starting to get bummed it would be a bsb. I only needed one gaff shot, I noticed it had a couple other wounds, this fish was someone elses heartbreak recently. On the beach at 8:00am, how sweet is that?

WOW!

Good job Dave!

Glad you caught that beast now instead of when WCW rolls around...that would be a probable JP contender. 10 cases of YT Pale Ale. I'm just sayin'.

Congrats on a trophy fish. I hope to catch a local YT that big sometime in my lifetime.

Still shaking my head after looing at the pictures again. Just awesome man!

Enjoy your weekend, you must be completely stoked!

That thing is huge. I was confused for a second looking at the pic of it on deck. It dwarfs your legs and everything around it. Too bad you day was cut short at only 1 hr.

So the 50# kayak yt club now has three members. Larry, Arne, and now Dave. What is the LJ record for boaters? I heard a rumor the spearo record at LJ is 60#. Anyone have any hard data on either of those other records?

And congrats again Dave. This is about the 5th time I've checked this post just to look at those unreal pics :cheers1:. That thing looks photoshopped in your lap becuase the proportions are all wrong:eek:.

Congrats on the catch of a lifetime, from a kayak!

Damn, I'm still amazed by that fish, I had the TLD drag set at 10lbs at "strike" and had to move the lever past that to about 75% to slow that beast down, didn't stop him for several long violent runs. I've got to admit I had a lot of respect for that scrappy old dude, but after my quad bypass 6 months ago the doc said I should eat more fish. So, basically, it was either him or me...

I remember thinking a couple of things while my rod was bent in half and line was peeling off the reel in big spurts, especially the first couple minutes. Is it knothead the dog? Is something big and angry going to come out of the water and make me its bitch? Do rapalas have a solid wire between the connection ring and the hook? Did I double over the spectra before I tied a uni-knot? At one point I had to put my legs in the water because it was towing me towards the reserve so fast.

It cooked up really well on the bbq. I ended up having Mario at Sportsmen’s Seafoods fillet it. I usually fillet myself but that thing was bigger than my table and I had a busy weekend. I'm having 1/2 a loin jerkied there. A tip from Mario, ice down a larger fish for 18-24 hours so that it gets stiff and makes it easier to fillet, otherwise it's hard to get clean fillets on soft or mushy flesh.

If you've never tried Sportsmen's Seafood near Seaforth you are missing out. They have a restaurant and fresh fish market. They will clean and vacuum seal your catch for $.75 per lb. or turn it into jerky for $1 per lb. Try a sample of their tuna jerky, good stuff.

I've put in 150 hours with bait in the water since my last 8lb yellowtail in September. Time on the water and a lot of luck pays off.

Nice to see your pay off after the many hours on the water. :) Fish of a lifetime. Sportsmens Seafood is a great place to get your fish smoked as well. Tuna jerky is the best!
