Very nice size! Also great eating. The spines are quite poisonous if poked by them. Always handle with extreme caution. Jim

Deffinately a sculpin and a nice one too. Thats a tasty fish. are you familiar with the sculpin "hair cut"? getting the spines off those things really helps safety wise. All dorsal spines, anal spines, and pelvic spines and thier arsenal is pretty much gone. the ones on the head hurt but aren't venomous. Mike

that's a typical bay fish. The scientific name is wormiest wormfest
bassturd fish. If cooked right they are delicious! :eating:

The fleshy flap over the eye would lead me to ID it as a Cabezon (mouth/throat is not always blue). If it is, you can verify it by noticing fewer spines than a sculpin (scorpionfish) and blue flesh. Cabezon is one of the best eating fish ever! But don't eat their eggs - they are toxic.

Cabezon is a member of the sculpin family, and a scorpionfish is really a sculpin, so I can't go wrong by guessing Sculpin :D

Actually I agree with Viking, Cabezon because of the flap over it's eye

BTW, Cabezon is 15" minimum
